Roles and responsibilities
- Lead the specification, design, and procurement of static and rotating equipment packages (e.g., compressors, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, flare packages, KODs, Drain pots).
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards (e.g., API, ASME), and client specifications.
- Develop and review package specifications, data sheets, and technical bid evaluations.
- Select and design equipment to meet project requirements and optimize performance.
- Ensure equipment compatibility with existing infrastructure and systems.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical issues
- Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely and cost-effective package delivery.
- Expedite vendor documentation, drawings, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure vendor compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
- Ensure seamless integration of equipment packages with overall project design.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (e.g., piping, electrical, instrumentation) to ensure compatibility.
- Manage interfaces with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Ensure equipment design and selection meet safety and quality standards.
- Participate in HAZOP and other safety reviews.
- Implement quality control procedures for package engineering
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.)
- Membership of a recognized professional institute preferred
- Minimum of 20 years' experience in the oil and gas industry
- Minimum of 20 years proven capability in an engineering design company
- Expertise in static and rotating equipment, package specification, and procurement.
- Experience of working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams is strongly preferred
- Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage
Desired candidate profile
1. Mechanical Design and Engineering
- Expertise in designing mechanical systems, equipment, and components.
- Proficient in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) to create and modify designs.
- Strong understanding of material properties and selection, as well as mechanical principles (stress, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, etc.).
2. Project Management & Leadership
- Ability to lead a team of engineers, drafters, and technicians to deliver mechanical design and systems.
- Effective planning and scheduling of engineering tasks and resources, ensuring project milestones are met.
- Responsible for coordinating between departments (e.g., electrical, civil, procurement) to ensure seamless project execution.
3. Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting
- Skilled in diagnosing mechanical failures, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to innovate and develop solutions to complex engineering problems.
4. Mechanical System Analysis & Simulation
- Proficiency in using simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) to analyze the performance of mechanical systems and components under various conditions.
- Conducting stress, fatigue, and thermal analysis to ensure the safety and functionality of designs.
5. Quality Control & Standards Compliance
- Ensuring designs and implementations meet industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, ISO, ASTM).
- Conducting design reviews, inspections, and quality assurance testing to verify that mechanical systems meet required specifications.
- Familiarity with industry codes and safety regulations.
6. Vendor and Supplier Management
- Managing and coordinating with external suppliers and manufacturers for materials, components, and services.
- Evaluating and selecting vendors based on quality, cost, and lead times.
- Negotiating contracts and ensuring adherence to project timelines.
7. Budget and Cost Management
- Overseeing the budget for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented.
- Estimating costs for design, materials, and fabrication, while maintaining cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identifying opportunities for cost-saving innovations.
