Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Child Supervision and Safety

  • Childcare expertise: Ensure the safety and well-being of children by providing constant supervision and creating a safe environment for them to play and learn.
  • Emergency response: Be trained in first aid and CPR, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively to any emergencies or accidents.
  • Safety protocols: Implement and enforce safety rules for activities, including checking the safety of toys, equipment, and play areas regularly.
  • Risk management: Recognize and mitigate any potential hazards in the environment, ensuring the children are safe at all times.

Engaging and Creative Programming

  • Activity planning: Develop and organize fun, age-appropriate activities that promote learning, creativity, and physical activity, such as arts and crafts, games, storytelling, and outdoor activities.
  • Themed events: Plan themed events, such as talent shows, scavenger hunts, or seasonal celebrations, to engage children in different ways and foster a sense of excitement.
  • Educational activities: Incorporate educational components into activities to help children develop new skills, such as group work, problem-solving, or fine motor skills.
  • Age-appropriate programming: Tailor activities to suit a wide range of ages, ensuring that the programming is fun, challenging, and engaging for all children involved.

Communication Skills

  • Effective communication with children: Use clear, friendly, and age-appropriate language to communicate instructions, manage behavior, and engage children in activities.
  • Communication with parents: Keep parents informed about their children’s activities, progress, and any concerns or issues, offering peace of mind while their children are under supervision.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with other Kids Club staff, hotel or resort management, and parents to coordinate activities, schedules, and any special requests or needs.
  • Cultural sensitivity: Adapt communication style to meet the diverse cultural and language needs of children and families from various backgrounds.

Behavior Management

  • Positive reinforcement: Use positive discipline techniques to encourage good behavior and manage challenges, such as tantrums or disagreements, in a constructive and non-punitive manner.
  • Conflict resolution: Address and mediate conflicts between children, guiding them through peaceful problem-solving techniques and teaching them social skills like sharing and taking turns.
  • Setting boundaries: Establish clear rules and boundaries, creating a structured environment where children know what to expect and feel secure.
  • Patience and empathy: Approach behavioral issues with patience, empathy, and understanding, recognizing that children may act out due to different emotions or situations.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Team leadership: Supervise and guide other staff members, such as junior counselors or volunteers, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols and assist with activities.
  • Delegation: Effectively delegate tasks to other staff, ensuring that all children receive the attention and support they need throughout their time at the Kids Club.
  • Role model: Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respectful behavior, responsibility, and kindness to children and other staff members.

Desired candidate profile

As a Kids Club Counselor, you are responsible for assisting the Recreation and Entertainment Manager and your immediate superior in ensuring, administering and checking the day to day operations of the club with regards to the following section:

  • Reception, Massage, Fitness, Gym, Pool, Male and Female changing area
