Masons play a key role in infrastructure development by laying strong foundations constructing walls and finishing surfaces with precision and artistry. This role requires deep knowledge of construction techniques material behavior and safety practices.
Reading Blueprints and Drawings:
Interpret architectural and engineering blueprints to understand project requirements and dimensions.
Surface Preparation:
Clean and level surfaces set forms and ensure proper alignment before starting any masonry work.
Material Handling:
Mix and prepare mortar cement and other adhesives to required consistency for use in construction.
Bricklaying and Block Work:
Lay bricks concrete blocks or natural stones in mortar to build walls partitions arches and other structures.
Plastering & Rendering:
Apply coats of plaster to walls ceilings and partitions for both structural and aesthetic purposes.
Tiling & Finishing Work:
Set floor or wall tiles with precision and ensure level durable installation. Smooth and polish concrete and masonry surfaces.
Repair & Maintenance:
Remove damaged masonry replace broken bricks repair walls and restore historical structures when needed.
Measuring and Cutting:
Measure and cut bricks or blocks using hand tools power saws or wet saws to meet design specifications.
Scaffolding & Safety Compliance:
Set up and work from scaffolding when required. Follow health and safety procedures wearing appropriate PPE.
Team Collaboration:
Coordinate with site engineers carpenters steel fixers and other workers to ensure smooth progress of construction.
Minimum X years of experience as a Mason or related field
Proficient in various masonry techniques (brickwork blockwork stonework plastering tiling)
Ability to work with precision and attention to detail
Good physical stamina and strength
Knowledge of mixing ratios and construction materials
Basic understanding of construction math and measurements
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with construction tools and machines
Outdoor construction sites often exposed to dust heat and various weather conditions
Requires physical exertion such as lifting standing for long periods and working in tight or elevated spaces
May involve overtime and working under deadlines
Reliable and punctual
Strong work ethic and focus on safety
Ability to adapt to different job sites and tasks
Open to learning new masonry techniques
