Senior Electrical Technician

Performs all level preventative and predictive maintenance activities on electrical equipment and systems used in wastewater and water utility infrastructure.

Performs the most advanced level troubleshooting and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and systems used in wastewater and water utility infrastructure.

Performs root cause analysis on repetitive and catastrophic electrical equipment and system failures.

Reviews new construction and equipment upgrade contract documents and drawings for configuration management and conformance to various design and materials standards.

Installs and upgrades electrical systems and control circuits to enhance the efficient, reliable and safe operation of wastewater and water pumping stations and treatment plants.

Performs on-the-job training of subordinate workers in advanced electrical skills and maintenance practices.

Performs various duties as the senior worker in the administration of a multi-person maintenance work center that supports the efficient, reliable and safe operation of electrical equipment and systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the hazards associated with working on and near electrical and electro-mechanical equipment and the appropriate safety measures to observe.

Knowledge of national and local electric codes governing the selection, installation and maintenance of the electrical equipment and systems installed in an automated, remotely monitored wastewater and water utility.

Knowledge of the selection, installation and maintenance requirements for three-phase AC induction motors, including those intended for "inverter duty" applications.

Knowledge of programming the programmable logic controllers (PLC) used in process control applications.

Knowledge of NEC installation and grounding requirements and applicable regulations concerning programmable logic controller (PLC) operations.

Knowledge of the selection requirements for various equipment used in the installation of programmable logic controllers (PLC).

Knowledge of NEC installation and grounding requirements and applicable regulation concerning variable frequency drive (VFD) operations.

Knowledge in the selection requirements for various equipment used in the installation of variable frequency drives (VFD).

Knowledge of configuring variable frequency drives (VFD) for use in automatic process control applications.

Knowledge of problems created in power distribution systems and AC induction motors controlled by solid-state variable frequency drives (VFD) and ways to reduce or eliminate these negative effects.

Skill in the selection, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of three-phase AC induction motors and electric motor control circuits.

Skill in the selection, installation, troubleshooting and corrective maintenance of relay logic circuits.

Skill in the selection, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical components and circuits utilized in automated industrial process control systems.

Skill in the selection, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of all programmable logic controller (PLC) installed in the wastewater and water utilities infrastructure.

Skill in writing programs for programmable logic controllers (PLC) used in automatic process control systems.

Skill in the selection, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of all variable frequency drives (VFD) installed in the wastewater and water utilities infrastructure.

Skill in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of simple 4-20 ma current loops, flow measurement devices and alarm circuits.

Skill in conducting on-the-job training for operations and maintenance personnel on the operation and user maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.

Skill in reading sketches, blueprints, control diagrams, ladder logic, manufacturer's specifications and other technical documents related to the maintenance of electrical and electro-mechanical systems.

Skill in the management and administration of a maintenance work team of at least four persons.

Skill in planning and sequencing work required to accomplish tasks both independently and as the lead tradesman of small work groups.

Skill in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
