Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • To achieve the highest standards of professional competence and to demonstrate this ability in all dealings with clients and professional contacts, reinforcing the profile of the firm.
  • Ability to integrate with key members of the design team and Client team.
  • Assist in evaluating claims.
  • Preparation of financial updates and monthly cost reports.
  • Assesses and value progress payments and change requests.
  • Review and compare scopes of work, production rates, and cost data.
  • Preparation of earned value reports.
  • Prepare, review, and update cash-flows.
  • Estimate variation orders for Contractors/Subcontractors.
  • Evaluate and negotiates variations and change orders in liaison with the Contract Administrator, Design and Construction Teams.
  • Evaluate and negotiate final accounts settlements.

Qualifications

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience with large scale projects.
  • Experience in infrastructure and housing projects beneficial.
  • Communication and formal English language skills are considered essential.


Qualification

  • Must have a QS or Engineering degree or similar equivalent
  • MRICS Preferable


Specific Skills Required

  • High level of literacy skills in English. Arabic speaking considered a benefit.
  • Excellent working knowledge of industry best practices
  • To be part of our commercial team on an Infrastructure and housing project
  • Knowledge of cost and contract management techniques, budget management and change control
  • Ability to present confidently
  • Ability to act with discretion and safeguarding confidentiality of project data.
  • Computer Literate, with specific experience in Cost Management software programs

Desired candidate profile

1. Lead Surveying Activities for Building Projects

  • Managing Surveying Teams: Oversee and coordinate a team of surveyors and survey technicians working on the building project. Ensure that the surveying team meets deadlines, works safely, and delivers accurate, high-quality results.
  • Survey Coordination and Planning: Plan and manage the overall survey strategy for the building project, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking. Ensure all surveys are conducted according to schedule and to the necessary specifications.
  • Setting Out Construction Points: Responsible for marking and setting out key reference points for the construction of the building, such as the location of foundations, columns, walls, and other structural elements. This requires precise measurements to ensure that the construction aligns with the design.

2. Site Surveys and Layouts

  • Boundary and Topographic Surveys: Conduct or supervise boundary and topographic surveys of the site, ensuring that any existing features such as utilities, roads, and other structures are documented. These surveys provide the essential data needed for the design and construction phases.
  • Building Control Points: Establish control points, gridlines, and benchmarks that will guide the construction process. These points are essential for ensuring the building is constructed in the correct location and to the correct dimensions.
  • Construction Staking: Stake out the positions of structures, roads, utilities, and other elements based on architectural and engineering plans. Ensure that the construction aligns with the proposed design and meets local regulations and safety standards.
  • As-Built Surveys: Once construction is completed, carry out as-built surveys to record the final location and dimensions of the building as it was constructed. This is important for ensuring compliance with design specifications and for future maintenance or renovation work.

3. Quality Assurance and Risk Management

  • Ensuring Accuracy and Precision: As a senior surveyor, you are responsible for maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and precision in all survey measurements. This includes overseeing the calibration and maintenance of surveying instruments.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular checks and quality assurance on survey data to ensure that it meets industry standards and the requirements of the project. Resolve any issues with accuracy or discrepancies in survey data quickly.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Anticipate potential risks or issues that may arise during the surveying process and implement strategies to mitigate those risks. This could include addressing issues related to land access, underground utilities, or legal disputes over land boundaries.

4. Collaboration with Other Stakeholders

  • Liaising with Engineers, Architects, and Contractors: Work closely with other project professionals, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure that survey data is accurately incorporated into the design and construction process. Provide updates on the progress of surveying work and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
  • Coordinating with Project Management: Collaborate with project managers to ensure that survey tasks are completed within project timelines and budgets. Provide estimates for the duration of surveying work and track the progress of tasks.
  • Compliance with Regulations and Standards: Ensure that all surveys comply with local building codes, zoning laws, environmental regulations, and other relevant standards. Keep up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations affecting the surveying and construction industries.

5. Training and Mentoring Junior Surveyors

  • Mentoring and Supervision: As a senior surveyor, you may be responsible for mentoring and training junior surveyors or survey technicians. Share your expertise in surveying techniques, software, and equipment use, as well as project management skills.
  • Providing Technical Guidance: Offer technical guidance on complex surveying issues, such as resolving boundary disputes, interpreting survey data, and managing difficult terrain or site conditions.
