Job Description: Mason Block - Petrochemicals

Position Overview: The Mason Block is responsible for constructing and maintaining structures within the petrochemical facility, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role involves working with various materials and techniques to support the infrastructure of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Construct, repair, and maintain masonry structures such as walls, foundations, and other surfaces in petrochemical plants.

Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine project specifications.

Work with concrete, brick, block, and stone to create durable structures.

Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company standards.

Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to address structural issues and improvements.

Perform routine inspections and maintenance on masonry structures to ensure integrity and safety.

Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; certification in masonry or related field preferred.

Proven experience as a mason or in a similar role, preferably in industrial or petrochemical settings.

Strong understanding of masonry techniques, materials, and safety practices.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.

Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor and indoor settings.

Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces as required.

A Mason is a skilled trade professional who works with various types of stone, brick, concrete blocks, and other materials to construct and repair structures such as walls, chimneys, sidewalks, and foundations. Masons are essential in the construction and renovation of both residential and commercial buildings, as well as public infrastructure like bridges and roads. Their work requires a combination of craftsmanship, knowledge of building materials, and physical strength to create durable and aesthetically pleasing masonry structures.

Key Responsibilities of a Mason:

1. Building and Installing Masonry Structures:

   • Bricklaying: Lay bricks and blocks to construct walls, foundations, chimneys, and other structures. This includes ensuring that each brick or block is placed in the correct position for stability and strength.
   • Stone Masonry: Cut, shape, and lay natural stone to build structures like walls, patios, walkways, and facades. Stone masons may work with materials such as granite, limestone, or marble.
   • Concrete and Mortar Work: Mix and apply mortar, cement, and other adhesives to bond bricks, blocks, or stones together. This also includes the construction of concrete slabs or footings.
   • Restoration and Repair: Repair or restore damaged masonry structures, such as brickwork or stonework, to its original condition. This may involve replacing cracked bricks or stones, repointing mortar joints, or reinforcing foundations.

2. Surface Preparation and Finishing:

   • Cutting and Shaping Materials: Use hand tools like hammers, chisels, and trowels, as well as power tools like saws and grinders, to cut, shape, and smooth stone, brick, and concrete.
   • Finishing and Sealing: Apply finishing touches to masonry surfaces, such as cleaning excess mortar, smoothing rough surfaces, or applying sealants to protect the material from weather and wear.

3. Reading Blueprints and Technical Drawings:

   • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and specifications to understand the design and dimensions of masonry work required.
   • Measurements and Layouts: Take precise measurements and lay out guidelines to ensure the structure’s accuracy and alignment.
