The Kitchen Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing kitchen equipment and appliances to ensure a safe functional and efficient working environment. This role involves troubleshooting issues performing preventive maintenance and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on kitchen equipment such as ovens stoves refrigerators dishwashers and other kitchen appliances.
- Diagnose issues with kitchen equipment and appliances and implement repairs promptly.
- Replace defective parts using hand tools and testing devices.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all kitchen equipment.
- Inspect kitchen equipment regularly to identify potential problems and address them before they cause breakdowns.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is operating safely and complies with local state and federal regulations.
- Adhere to safety standards and protocols to minimize the risk of accidents.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools required for repairs and maintenance.
- Order necessary parts and supplies in a timely manner to avoid disruption in kitchen operations.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Document any incidents or issues and the actions taken to resolve them.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support and guidance to kitchen staff on the proper use and care of kitchen equipment.
- Train kitchen staff on basic troubleshooting techniques and maintenance procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical training or certification in kitchen equipment repair and maintenance is preferred.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a kitchen technician or similar role.
- Experience with a wide range of kitchen equipment and appliances.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of kitchen equipment and appliance operation maintenance and repair.
- Proficiency in using hand tools power tools and diagnostic equipment.
Interpersonal Skills:

Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:
- This position is typically based in a commercial kitchen setting with a standard 40hour work week. Occasional overtime and emergency callouts may be required.
Qualifications: Education: Formal culinary training or a diploma in culinary arts is preferred. Experience: Prior experience in a professional kitchen is an advantage but not always required. Skills: Basic cooking skills, knife skills, and knowledge of food safety standards.
