Principal Lead- Data Governance Enablement

Overall objectives

To lead and enable the effective execution of the enterprise-wide data governance strategy by driving adoption of data governance standards facilitating business engagement and ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational requirements. The role will champion data ownership stewardship and quality practices across the bank to support trusted high-quality data assets for business decision-making and regulatory compliance.

The Principal Lead Data Governance Enablement will play a critical role in driving the adoption embedding and operationalization of the banks enterprise-wide Data Governance Framework. This role is responsible for enabling and empowering business and functional areas to take accountability for their data through structured ownership stewardship and data quality practices.

The Principal data governance Lead  will focus on translating the data governance strategy into actionable programs and processes ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations organizational objectives and industry best practices. Through strong engagement and influence this role will foster a culture where data is recognized and treated as a critical business asset driving value creation regulatory compliance and informed decision-making across the bank.

Additionally the Principal Lead will ensure the effective utilization of data governance tools frameworks and technologies transformation to enhance FABs data management capabilities and will serve as a key advisor and champion for elevating data governance maturity across all business units and international locations.

Drive cross-functional business engagement and data culture transformation through structured data literacy programs ownership frameworks and Data Governance Committees

Role specific responsibilities

Drive the execution of the data governance enablement agenda ensuring alignment to the banks strategic objectives and regulatory expectations.

Lead engagement with business and functional data owners and stewards to embed ownership stewardship and accountability for data assets.

Develop and maintain data governance playbooks guidelines and processes to support consistency and adherence across the bank.

Support the Head of Data Governance in reporting governance performance data quality metrics and remediation progress to senior forums and regulators.

Enable the effective use of data governance technologies and tools to operationalize data governance processes and controls.

Champion continuous improvement initiatives to mature the banks data governance capabilities and foster a culture of data accountability. evolve the enterprise data governance strategy by embedding adaptive frameworks that align with evolving regulatory mandates (e.g. CBUAE open banking Regulatory reporting ) and future-proof the organization for AI-driven real-time data ecosystems.

Support the Head of Data Governance to operationalize AI-augmented data governance using next-gen tools (e.g. Informatica CLAIRE GPT Azure CoPilot Databricks Unity Catalog Agentic AI ) to automate data lineage classification quality monitoring and policy enforcement across hybrid cloud environments.

Support the Head of Data Governance  to Embed data ownership and stewardship accountability into business processes by institutionalizing federated models smart workflows and intelligent dashboards enabling business-led governance at scale across global and regional operations. with frequent review and enhancement of policies and SOPs

Proactively mitigate data risks across the First Line of Defense by integrating automated risk assessments control monitoring (via RCSA) and regulatory audit preparedness into data governance operationsaligning with predictive risk intelligence and real-time compliance models. Maintaining High level of Data quality score mandated by UAECB and AECB

Support the Head of Data Governance  to Advance the organizations data governance literacy and digital fluency through tailored upskilling programs business-aligned training and AI-enabled knowledge assistants that support data-driven decision-making at all levels.

Qualifications :

Core competencies required

Strong expertise in enterprise data governance frameworks and operating models (e.g. DAMA DCAM).

Advanced knowledge of data management principles data quality metadata management and regulatory data requirements (e.g. BCBS 239 GDPR UAE CBUAE).

Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior leadership levels.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate governance policies into actionable programs.

Proficiency with data governance tools (e.g. Informatica EDC Axon IDQ).

Excellent communication facilitation and presentation skills.

Strategic Data Governance Leadership with Ability to define implement and scale data governance frameworks policies and operating models across FAB group .

Business Engagement & Data Stewardship Enablement with Proven skill in driving business alignment through ownership and stewardship models embedding data accountability across functions and geographies.

Technology & Data Management Proficiency &Transformation Hands-on experience with data governance platforms (e.g. Informatica AXON EDC IDQ) MDM metadata/catalog tools and integration with AI/cloud environments (Azure Databricks Agentic AI  CoPilot etc.).

Change Management & Transformation Delivery Ability to lead cross-functional change initiatives drive data literacy and manage large-scale transformation programs linked to digital cloud and AI strategies. Including Agentic AI and any future emerging technology

Stakeholder Management & Executive Communication Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage with all Business risk compliance technology international CEOs  and business leadership
