Job Summary:
The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for leading the planning and scheduling activities of infrastructure projects to ensure timely and efficient execution. This role involves developing monitoring and updating project schedules analyzing progress identifying potential delays and recommending corrective actions. The Senior Planning Engineer will work closely with project managers engineers and stakeholders to ensure that planning reporting and resource allocation align with project objectives contractual requirements and best practices.
Key Job Duties:
- Project Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop maintain and update detailed project schedules using approved planning software ensuring alignment with project scope contractual milestones and resource availability.
- Establish baseline programs in coordination with the project team and obtain client/consultant approval.
- Define work breakdown structures (WBS) and coding systems to facilitate accurate planning tracking and reporting.
- Progress Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule identify variances and analyze their impact on project delivery.
- Prepare and submit periodic progress reports including look-ahead schedules S-curves manpower histograms and delay analysis.
- Provide early warnings of potential delays and propose practical recovery measures.
- Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate with project managers site teams and subcontractors to gather progress data and validate reported achievements.
- Participate in project meetings to present schedule updates highlight risks and recommend solutions.
- Liaise with the cost control team to integrate schedule data with budget forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Delay Analysis & Claims Support:
- Conduct forensic schedule analysis to assess delay events identify critical path impacts and prepare time impact analyses.
- Support in the preparation and evaluation of extension of time (EOT) claims in accordance with contract provisions.
- Resource & Productivity Management:
- Monitor resource deployment against planned allocations and highlight underutilization or shortages.
- Review productivity rates and adjust schedules to reflect realistic outputs.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all planning and scheduling activities comply with contractual regulatory and client requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive planning records including schedule revisions correspondence and approvals for audit and project closeout.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Recommend process improvements innovative tools and best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of project planning.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and relevant planning methodologies.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field with a minimum of 10 years experience in project planning and scheduling for large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in Primavera P6 Project Management Software and other relevant project management tools.
- Strong analytical skills with in-depth knowledge of FIDIC contracts Work Breakdown Structures and risk management techniques.
- Experience in handling claims Extensions of Time (EOT) requests and conducting forensic schedule analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in technical tender evaluations and bid analysis.
- Knowledge of industry-standard Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and progress measurement techniques.
- Project management (e.g. PMP PRINCE2) or planning (e.g. PMI-SP) certification is highly desirable.
