Job Description

Position Summary

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the overall co-ordination of all mechanical engineering deliverables (static & rotating equipment) in accordance with the approved development plans and HSSE standards of facilities projects. Specifically the delivery of a 150 MMSCFD raw gas gathering and compression facility gas processing facility and all associated storage tanks gathering lines and connecting pipelines to the existing gas network and export terminal.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer shall be responsible for the review & approval of all discipline related engineering deliverables & construction drawings.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance within mechanical discipline.
  • Collaborate with other discipline engineers to ensure integrated and multidisciplinary project solutions.
  • Review and assess engineering deliverables provided by the engineering consultant within the assigned discipline.
  • Ensure that design work complies with project requirements industry codes and standards.
  • Work to optimize engineering designs for efficiency cost-effectiveness and adherence to project objectives.
  • Collaborate with the engineering consultant to identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Assist in defining the scope of work for the assigned discipline during the FEED phase.
  • Participate in scope definition workshops and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines to ensure seamless integration of project deliverables.
  • Address inter-disciplinary issues and promote effective communication between teams.
  • Implement and enforce quality standards for engineering deliverables within the assigned discipline.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
  • Address technical issues and challenges within the assigned discipline promptly.
  • Provide solutions and work closely with the engineering consultant to resolve technical concerns.
  • Ensure that engineering designs comply with relevant industry regulations codes and standards.
  • Work with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary approvals for engineering deliverables.
  • Identify assess and manage risks associated with the assigned discipline.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and update the risk register accordingly.
  • Work closely with the Stakeholders to understand and address specific requirements within the assigned discipline.
  • Present and discuss engineering solutions with the Stakeholders incorporating feedback into the design.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the project schedule for the assigned discipline.
  • Monitor progress against discipline-specific milestones and collaborate with the Project Manager on schedule optimization.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the discipline.
  • Facilitate training sessions to enhance the skills of discipline-specific team members.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the disciplines engineering practices.
  • Implement measures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in discipline-related activities.
  • Prioritize and enforce health safety and environmental standards within the discipline.
  • Collaborate with the HSE team to address any safety or environmental concerns related to discipline-specific activities.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Technical management of all mechanical engineering deliverables both rotating and static equipment packages including concept definition and development detailed engineering implementation (Construction and Commissioning) and close-out.
  • Have a wide range of technical skills and experience and knowledge of Mechanical engineering and Rotating Equipment (including Acid Gas Injection and Sweet Gas Export Compressors) modular system which can be expanded for future Gas Plant trains.
  • Hands on experience with construction and commissioning.
  • Experience in developing technically acceptable constructible and operable cost-effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of modularized process plant design and installation
  • Coordinate with internal engineering personnel to deliver allocated project scope.
  • Work with internal and external engineering operations and construction teams to develop commissioning and handover plans.
  • Ability to coordinate and provide interface between the Company s Engineering Operations and Construction teams.
  • Flexible working style with adaptability.
  • Ability to achieve results through initiative and taking accountability
  • Ability to cope with pressure complexity and ambiguity while bringing order and clarity
  • Good delegator and prepared to self-deliver when needed
  • Ability to maintain a balance of structure planning and predictability with fast execution
  • Train and mentor local staff as required.
Required Education and Qualifications
  • Min. Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University
  • Chartered Engineer or member of an internationally recognized Professional Engineering Association preferred.

Required Experience
  • 20 years of experience as a Mechanical Static and Rotating Engineer with extensive onshore oil & gas project experience with an E&P Operator or Tier-1 Engineering/EPC Company.
  • Must have contributed to a full-cycle execution of a gas processing plant in EPC or EPCM environment from FEED through to commissioning and handover. Experience in managing the associated Mechanical Engineering and Rotating Equipment challenges.
  • Experience in complex projects with technical teams involving both company and contractor personnel.
  • Previous experience working in the Middle East is essential.
Other Relevant Competency Requirements
  • Technical expert in Mechanical Engineering with respect to both static and rotating equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to grasp complex issues and convey their resolution to project stakeholders
  • Hands-on realistic approach contributes personally to solve problems and gets things done with a sense of urgency.
  • Broad technical knowledge of oil and gas engineering a strong preference to upstream gas processing.
  • Action oriented quickly identifying opportunities/obstacles and assembling the resources required to act on them.
  • Proven ability to work on a number of issues simultaneously.
  • Ensure vendor documentation is properly managed and comments returned in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

The position is based in Dubai UAE with occasional visits to the project site in Iraq. Ability to travel to site is mandatory and will require an acceptable level of mobility and fitness.
