Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are a multidisciplinary team working on some of the region’s most complex urban challenges – from strategizing city growth and reimagining transportation networks to preparing guidelines that will redefine city skylines. We marry the practical and essential with the bold and radical.

Our studio is looking for new talent to complement our existing pool of Designers, Planners and Urban Strategists. If you believe you are a visionary problem solver, with a deep understanding of urban systems, and a desire to shape transformative masterplans; we would like to work with you.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Post Graduate Degree in Spatial, Economic, Policy Planning
  • A minimum of 6 years of Post Graduate Experience
  • Working Experience outside the Middle East
  • A strong understanding of Urban Systems, Governance, Implementation strategies
  • Adept at writing compelling Reports, Guidelines, Policies and Strategies
  • Showcase instances of leading key projects/ tasks and managing small teams
  • Proficiency in using InDesign and Geospatial tools

Desired candidate profile

1. Urban Planning and Design Expertise

  • Master Planning: Expertise in developing master plans for cities or specific urban areas, balancing needs such as residential, commercial, transportation, green spaces, and infrastructure.
  • Zoning and Land Use Planning: Deep understanding of land use regulations, zoning laws, and building codes to ensure urban development projects align with local regulations and community goals.
  • Urban Design: Strong knowledge of urban design principles to create spaces that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and socially inclusive. This involves a focus on pedestrian-friendly spaces, public amenities, and connectivity.
  • Sustainable Urban Development: Expertise in designing urban spaces with sustainability in mind, incorporating green spaces, renewable energy systems, and water-efficient technologies into urban planning.

2. Environmental and Sustainability Considerations

  • Sustainable Development: Ability to advise on sustainable urban growth, considering environmental impact, resource efficiency, and resilience to climate change.
  • Green Infrastructure: Familiarity with concepts like green roofs, stormwater management, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and urban greening to reduce the ecological footprint of urban developments.
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Knowledge of how to reduce the carbon footprint of urban areas through energy-efficient building design, renewable energy systems, and promoting low-carbon transportation solutions.

3. Policy, Regulation, and Governance

  • Urban Policy and Legislation: Strong understanding of local, regional, and national urban policies, zoning laws, and building regulations.
  • Governance and Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in navigating governance frameworks and engaging stakeholders, including municipal governments, developers, local communities, and advocacy groups, to align urban development with societal needs.
  • Economic Analysis: Ability to assess the economic feasibility of urban development projects, including understanding real estate market dynamics, funding mechanisms, and return on investment.

4. Infrastructure and Mobility Planning

  • Transportation and Mobility Planning: Expertise in planning efficient and sustainable transportation networks, including public transport, pedestrian and bike-friendly infrastructure, and smart mobility solutions.
  • Infrastructure Development: Knowledge of key infrastructure components such as water, energy, sewage systems, telecommunications, and waste management, and how they can be integrated into urban planning.
