Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The Inspector will perform a broad cross‑section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in Quality Control and Quality Assurance inspection of construction work in infrastructure projects.

Job Duties

  • Analyzes applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance.
  • Provides general inspection on all construction and subcontractor work to assure a safe and workmanlike operation.
  • Verifies equipment settings, alignment, testing and energization requirements.
  • Be familiar with the project’s detailed drawings, specifications, and health and safety measures together with any associated updates.
  • Ensure the contractor/s compliance with the standards and specifications of the contract documents.
  • Maintain records of the contractor human and equipment daily resources.
  • Undertake all site supervision and inspections when required or instructed by the Resident Engineer (RE) or the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE).
  • Liaise and daily follow up with the contractor. This is to ensure the contractor is managing its resources, health and safety, and equipment needs on the site.
  • Prepare daily report to the RE or ARE. This includes works orders, materials delivery, and daily inspections program.
  • Follow up and implement any site instructions made by the RE and ARE.
  • Apply and implement all quality controls and quality procedures of the site.
  • Prepare any site measurements and surveying checks needed by the RE or ARE for pipes alignments and levels.
  • Co-ordinate and co-operate with client project manager during their site inspections in the presence of the RE or ARE.
  • Assist the ARE and RE in the preparation of any correspondences in compliance with the contract documents and site requirements.
  • Where site problems are found, work with the RE or ARE to resolve them promptly.
  • Monitor the start-up, commissioning and handover of the site works. Including maintaining records of the project milestones.
  • Maintain records of materials tests performed and executed works.
  • Audit inspections for conformity to contract documents and contractor submitted plans.


Qualifications

  • Technical Institute Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering field (i.e. Civil)
  • The ideal candidate to be Civil Engineering graduate with minimum 7 years’ experience in similar projects.
  • Middle East experience preferred.
  • Relevant experience in comparable roads and bridges projects

Desired candidate profile

1. Site Inspections and Monitoring

  • On-Site Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of construction sites to ensure that all work aligns with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory codes. This includes checking the construction of foundations, structures, drainage systems, and roadways.
  • Quality Assurance: Verifying that the materials and methods used on-site meet the quality standards defined in project plans. You may also perform material testing, such as concrete strength tests or soil compaction tests.
  • Measuring and Verifying Work: Ensuring that the construction dimensions and positions align with the approved plans. You may use tools like laser levels, measuring tapes, and GPS systems for accurate measurements.

2. Ensuring Compliance with Codes and Regulations

  • Building Codes and Regulations: Ensuring that all work complies with local, state, and national building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations.
  • Health and Safety: Enforcing safety regulations on the construction site, ensuring that workers follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, and identifying potential safety hazards.
  • Permitting: Checking that all necessary permits are in place before construction begins and verifying that inspections are completed at various stages of the project to comply with legal requirements.

3. Documentation and Reporting

  • Inspection Reports: Preparing detailed inspection reports documenting the findings of site visits, including photographs, notes, and any issues or discrepancies discovered. This helps track the progress of the project and provides documentation for project managers and stakeholders.
  • Progress Tracking: Keeping accurate records of work completed, materials used, and the overall status of the project. Reports should highlight any delays, violations, or safety concerns.
  • Non-Compliance Notices: Issuing non-compliance notices or warnings when construction fails to meet the required standards. These notices should outline corrective actions and ensure timely compliance.
  • Change Orders: Reviewing and documenting any changes or deviations from the original plans. This may involve assessing the impact of changes on cost, quality, and timeline.

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Coordination with Project Managers: Collaborating with civil engineers, contractors, project managers, and architects to resolve issues and ensure that the construction work stays on schedule and meets the required standards.
  • Client Communication: Interfacing with clients to provide updates on the progress of inspections and any critical issues that may arise. This ensures that clients are kept informed about the project's status and any potential problems.
  • Subcontractor Oversight: Monitoring the work of subcontractors and ensuring they adhere to the plans and quality standards. This includes verifying that subcontractor work is properly documented and inspected.
