Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

To ensure smooth running of all aspects of workshop operations within the commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.

Job Accountabilities:

1.Distribute the work according to the required skills, urgent jobs, and constraints.

2.Follow the work progress and checks the work quality.

3.Estimate the cause, cost and time needed for additional work identified and notifies the Service Advisors of such work.

4.Provide technical support to technicians.

5.Review the technician's request for parts, and orders from parts department.

6.Ensures the optimal use of equipment and avoiding waste of consumables.

7.Participate in testing of vehicles which were subject to a difficult diagnostic.

8.Gets informed of parts availability.

9.Ensure that the safety rules are observed; makes sure that the work areas are kept tidy and clean (checks for equipment storage and condition).

10.Coordinate with the service manager to obtain warranty approvals.

11.Evaluate the technician’s performance, maintain records and updates the service manager.

12.Lead and drive the work force to achieve the company’s set QHSEMS objectives and targets.

13.Coordinate with sales department on PDIs, stock and deliveries.

14.Implement safe and environment friendly practices in each work area.

15.Perform all the activities in compliance with the Company’s QHSEMS and as per the assigned specific responsibilities.

16.Carries out any additional tasks assigned (in line with qualifications and ability) by the line Manager.

Qualifications & Education

Diploma in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

Minimum 5years of experience in a related position within the workshop of heavy vehicles.

Knowledge & Skills

Fluent in English; working knowledge of Hindi/Urdu; Arabic an advantage.

Computer literate.

Driving license.

  • Training and Development: Ensuring that staff receive adequate training, including safety procedures, equipment use, and technical skills.
  • Delegation: Effectively assigning tasks based on each team member’s strengths and capabilities.

2. Technical Expertise

  • Workplace Knowledge: Strong understanding of the workshop’s processes, tools, and machinery used in production or maintenance.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Identifying and addressing technical issues that arise during work processes.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring that all products or services produced meet the required quality standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Knowledge of the proper care and maintenance of machinery, tools, and equipment used in the workshop.

3. Production and Workflow Management

  • Scheduling and Planning: Coordinating schedules to ensure that production targets are met, resources are available, and deadlines are adhered to.
  • Workflow Optimization: Identifying areas for improvement in the workflow to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Inventory Management: Ensuring that materials, tools, and spare parts are available when needed, managing stock levels, and placing orders as required.
  • Work Order Management: Ensuring that work orders are properly created, assigned, and completed in a timely manner.

4. Safety and Compliance

  • Health and Safety: Ensuring that the workshop adheres to safety standards and that workers follow proper safety protocols when operating machinery and handling tools.
  • Risk Assessment: Conducting regular safety checks and risk assessments to identify hazards and take preventive actions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with local laws, regulations, and industry standards, including environmental guidelines.

5. Communication Skills

  • Reporting: Keeping management informed about the progress of work, any issues, and team performance.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Building good relationships with team members, other departments, and external contractors or suppliers.
  • Instructions and Guidance: Clearly communicating instructions to the team and offering guidance on technical and procedural matters.
