Roles and responsibilities
- Have in-depth VAT technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and business proposals; and
- Should be able to support on extremely complex audit and controversy projects in a hands-on and dynamic way.
- Ability to Develop relationships with both internal and external customers, including active engagement with Tax Authorities.
- Candidate should be able to effectively manage networks and stakeholders, and also must be able to communicate, written and verbally, complex VAT concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.
- This position is not directly involved in day to day compliance but is responsible for assisting with the delivery of planning, real time coordination, and communication of various tax-related projects as well as collaborating with business partner contacts. This includes drafting the appropriate level of documentation to support analyses performed, decisions made and conclusions reached for purposes of reporting and compliance.
- Leading/Management of tax audits and inquiries by tax authorities, including preparing and reviewing responses to information requests and defending the company's tax technical positions
- Monitor changes in the Tax environment in order to understand the impact on the current day to day business operations, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Providing guidance to internal stakeholders on international tax matters, including conducting workshops or presentations to educate employees on tax implications of their activities.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- 10+ years of tax experience with a significant amount of time providing technical guidance experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a multinational business and either legal or accountancy firm experience
- Experience liaising with tax authorities including responding to audits and information requests
Desired candidate profile
Tax Knowledge and Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal tax laws, including corporate tax, sales tax, income tax, international tax, transfer pricing, and value-added tax (VAT).
- Understanding of tax compliance requirements and the ability to interpret tax regulations and apply them to business situations.
- Familiarity with tax planning strategies to optimize an organization’s tax position.
2. Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Expertise in preparing and reviewing tax returns (corporate income, sales, VAT, etc.) to ensure accurate and timely filing.
- Ability to ensure compliance with tax regulations and mitigate the risk of tax audits or disputes.
- Proficiency in working with tax preparation software and systems to streamline filing processes and maintain accuracy.
3. Tax Planning and Strategy
- Expertise in tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities, optimize tax structures, and manage global tax compliance.
- Knowledge of international taxation (cross-border taxation, transfer pricing, tax treaties) and strategies for managing multinational tax issues.
- Experience in advising senior leadership on tax implications for mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and other business activities.
4. Leadership and Management
- Strong leadership skills to manage and mentor a team of tax professionals, including tax analysts and junior tax managers.
- Ability to delegate tasks, review work, and ensure that the tax department operates efficiently and meets deadlines.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with legal, finance, and business operations to align tax strategies with corporate goals.
5. Tax Audits and Dispute Resolution
- Experience managing tax audits, including preparing responses to tax authorities, defending tax positions, and negotiating settlements.
- Ability to handle complex tax disputes and ensure the company’s position is protected during tax audits or litigation.
6. Risk Management and Controls
- Expertise in identifying potential tax risks and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Strong understanding of internal controls related to tax processes and compliance, ensuring accuracy and minimizing errors.
- Ability to assess tax risks associated with business activities and advise on tax implications.
7. Communication and Collaboration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively explain complex tax matters to senior management and non-tax professionals.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise tax reports, presentations, and memos for senior executives and external stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external auditors, legal teams, and other departments to align on tax matters.
