Roles and responsibilities
Support the project delivery teams in the development of marine engineering solutions for projects within the ports & maritime programme.
Responsibilities
- Provide marine engineering solutions that are safe and sustainable, cost effective, fit for purpose, commercially satisfying and innovative ensuring to be aligned with the Group’s governance and strategic goals.
- Analyze data and prepare technical reports and documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop the technical requirements for ports and maritime engineering studies, construction and performance specifications, design standards and other technical documents as required.
- Develop initial preconceptual engineering schemes for potential future projects.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship between project teams, supply chain and other stakeholders for the betterment of the AD Ports group.
- Identify future trends in the field of marine engineering and propose improvements and enhancements to existing specifications, standards, methods, and solutions.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of departmental standards and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is a plus
- Excellent English. Arabic is an added advantage
- A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a similar role
- Experience in marine engineering especially within a port, maritime or infrastructure environment.
- Preferably worked in both construction and consultancy organisations.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify and address complex challenges and opportunities and make data-driven decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Desired candidate profile
1. Technical Marine Engineering Expertise
- Systems Knowledge: In-depth understanding of propulsion systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems used in marine environments.
- Structural Design: Expertise in designing and analyzing hulls, superstructures, and subsea components.
- Maintenance Strategies: Advanced skills in preventive and corrective maintenance for marine systems.
2. Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge
- International Standards: Proficiency in IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other maritime regulations.
- Classification Societies: Familiarity with rules and standards set by organizations like ABS, DNV, and Lloyd's Register.
- Environmental Compliance: Understanding of emissions regulations and sustainable engineering practices.
3. Leadership and Team Management
- Team Oversight: Leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Training and Mentoring: Guiding junior engineers and fostering skill development within the team.
- Collaboration: Coordinating with stakeholders, including clients, shipyards, and regulatory bodies.
4. Project Management
- Planning and Execution: Managing project lifecycles from concept to commissioning, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Resource Allocation: Optimizing resources, including budgets, materials, and personnel.
- Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating technical, financial, and operational risks.
5. Problem-Solving and Innovation
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving complex engineering challenges in real time.
- Innovation: Developing and implementing cutting-edge technologies and solutions for improved efficiency and safety.

- Technical Reporting: Preparing detailed reports, specifications, and documentation for stakeholders.
