Roles and responsibilities
1. Advanced Lifeguarding and Emergency Response Skills
- Lifeguard Certification: In-depth knowledge of life-saving techniques, including CPR, first aid, AED use, water rescue methods, and spinal injury management.
- Emergency Response: Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations, executing effective rescues and providing medical assistance when necessary.
- Aquatic Knowledge: Strong understanding of water safety, including understanding currents, water conditions, and weather-related safety risks.
2. Leadership and Supervisory Abilities
- Team Leadership: Ability to lead and supervise a team of lifeguards, ensuring that all staff members are following protocols and performing their duties properly.
- Mentorship: Training and mentoring junior lifeguards, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively.
- Conflict Resolution: Handling any staff disputes, customer complaints, or emergency situations in a calm and professional manner.
3. Communication Skills
- Clear Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with both staff and guests, ensuring that safety rules are understood and followed.
- Public Speaking: Comfortably addressing groups or crowds (e.g., giving safety announcements or instructions to guests).
- Documentation: Maintaining clear and accurate records of incidents, rescues, and any safety-related matters.
4. Safety and Risk Management
- Safety Inspections: Conducting regular checks of the swimming area to identify potential safety hazards and ensuring safety equipment (e.g., life rings, first-aid kits, AEDs) is in good condition.
- Accident Prevention: Monitoring the pool or beach area to ensure safe behavior, proactively addressing risky behavior and ensuring compliance with facility rules.
- Crowd Management: Ensuring that the number of swimmers is safe for the size of the pool or area, and managing crowd flow to avoid overcrowding.
5. Strong Physical Fitness and Stamina
- Physical Fitness: Maintaining excellent physical condition to perform rescues, handle challenging physical tasks, and remain alert during long shifts.
- Endurance: Ability to spend long hours working in varying weather conditions, whether it's in the sun at the beach or in a pool under high heat.
6. Decision-Making and Problem-Solving
- Quick Thinking: Ability to assess situations quickly and make decisions that prioritize the safety and well-being of individuals in your care.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle unexpected situations such as equipment failure, medical emergencies, or difficult customers calmly and effectively.
7. Knowledge of Policies and Procedures
- Rules and Regulations: Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding water safety, lifeguard operations, and public health.
- Emergency Protocols: Familiarity with the emergency action plans for various incidents (e.g., drowning, medical emergencies, severe weather).
- Customer Service: Providing clear instructions to swimmers, guests, and visitors regarding pool rules, emergency procedures, and safety guidelines.
Desired candidate profile
- Possesses Lifeguard certification and authorized to conduct AR and CPR.
- Ensures set-up of safety equipment at the beach/pool which includes set up of life saving floatation devices along the shoreline/around the pool; correct flag must be in placed during business hours; rescue surfboard/boat ready on the shoreline; first aid kit; posting of business hours; depth of the pool; water & air temperatures; wind force & wind speed.
- Keeps the designated and marked swimming areas free of any engine driven boat or alike, windsurfers, or sea bikes (pedalos).
- Ensures that swimmers/snorkels are out of boat tracks or any hazardous areas.
- Supervises the use of windsurf and sea bikes including the log in and log out of guests, monitoring the action of wind surfers and those engaged in other water activities while out on the sea.
- Responds to any emergency within the hotel, resort swimming areas including ensuring that rescue boat is available at all times.
- Ensures that all water sports activities or pool activities are executed according to Security and Safety regulations.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
