Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

You will maintain effective communication with the Shift Leader at all times and complete activities on the preventive maintenance schedule as specified in hotel plans by following all safety procedures while carrying out any tasks. You will responsible to look after all the tools supplied by the Hotel in a professional manner, and correctly maintain and deposit them after finishing the shift and to suggest cost saving ideas as and when possible, not limited to the Engineering Department.

Qualifications

  • Must have the appropriate documented training from a technical/vocational institute.
  • One year operating experience in a hotel engineering department.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • . Technical Expertise in Electrical Systems

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, transformers, and electrical panels.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electrical plans to install or troubleshoot systems.
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and use them to install, maintain, or repair wiring and electrical components.
  • 2. Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and fix electrical issues, such as power outages, faulty wiring, or malfunctioning components.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools like multimeters, voltage testers, and clamp meters to detect issues in electrical systems.
  • Ability to isolate problems and provide effective solutions in both residential and commercial settings.
  • 3. Knowledge of Electrical Codes and Regulations

  • Familiarity with national and local electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations to ensure that all work meets legal and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant regulations to ensure that installations and repairs comply with safety standards.
  • Understanding of safety protocols when working with electrical systems to prevent accidents, fires, and electrical shocks.
  • 4. Physical Stamina and Dexterity

  • Ability to work in tight spaces, such as crawl spaces, attics, or ceilings, and at heights when installing or repairing electrical systems.
  • Comfort with physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy electrical equipment, bending conduit, and working for extended periods of time.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to work with small tools and intricate wiring.
  • 5. Safety Awareness

  • Constant awareness of electrical hazards, such as live wires, faulty grounding, and short circuits, to ensure safety at all times.
  • Knowledge of how to work with high-voltage systems and safely disconnect power when performing repairs or installations.
  • Adherence to strict safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, goggles, and insulated tools.
  • 6. Customer Service Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, explaining electrical issues and offering solutions in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Professionalism in addressing customer concerns, providing estimates, and ensuring satisfaction with completed work.
  • Ability to offer advice on energy efficiency and electrical upgrades, ensuring clients’ systems meet their needs.
  • 7. Time Management and Organization

  • Efficiently managing multiple tasks and projects while ensuring that deadlines are met and work is completed to a high standard.
  • Organizing tools, parts, and materials to ensure a smooth workflow and minimize downtime during repairs or installations.
  • Managing paperwork, such as work orders, invoices, and reports, to maintain accurate records of jobs completed.

Desired candidate profile

1. Installation of Electrical Systems

  • Installing electrical wiring, outlets, circuit breakers, and other components for new construction or renovation projects.
  • Running and connecting power lines, ensuring that electrical systems are set up to code and function properly.
  • Installing lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, smoke detectors, and other electrical equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.

2. Maintenance and Repairs

  • Maintaining electrical systems by inspecting and testing components such as wiring, switches, and panels for safety and functionality.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, such as blown fuses, tripped circuit breakers, or faulty wiring.
  • Replacing damaged or outdated electrical components, such as switches, outlets, and light fixtures, ensuring systems remain safe and efficient.

3. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics

  • Troubleshooting electrical issues by performing tests on circuits, wiring, and connections to identify faulty components or connections.
  • Using diagnostic tools like voltmeters, multimeters, and circuit testers to isolate problems and provide quick solutions.
  • Repairing or replacing faulty wiring, components, or electrical panels to restore normal function and prevent future issues.

4. Upgrading and Retrofitting Systems

  • Upgrading electrical systems, such as increasing the capacity of electrical panels or adding outlets, to accommodate modern electrical needs.
  • Retrofitting older electrical systems to comply with updated codes or to improve energy efficiency.
  • Replacing old, inefficient lighting systems with energy-saving alternatives, such as LED lights, to reduce power consumption.

5. Ensuring Code Compliance

  • Ensuring that all electrical work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Obtaining necessary permits for electrical work, inspecting completed installations to ensure they meet regulatory standards, and coordinating inspections with local authorities.
  • Ensuring that systems are properly grounded and that circuit breakers or fuses are appropriately rated for the system's load.

6. Customer Consultation and Communication

  • Consulting with clients to determine their electrical needs and providing recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency, or electrical repairs.
  • Explaining the benefits of electrical upgrades, such as installing energy-efficient lighting, solar panel systems, or advanced electrical panels.
  • Providing estimates for work and ensuring transparency regarding costs and timelines for completion.

7. Managing Electrical Documentation

  • Creating detailed work orders, job reports, and customer invoices to document the work performed and parts used.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, and installations to ensure proper tracking and warranty management.
  • Updating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, or system designs as necessary to reflect changes or upgrades.
