Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The Barista responsibilities include educating customers on the drinks’ menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items, taking orders, processing payments and delivering orders to the clients. The role holder will also be responsible for working various shifts and perform cashiering tasks.

ROLE PROFILE

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards, conducting regular audits and quality checks as per operational requirements.
  • Work within operational procedures to ensure food and beverage preparation processes comply with company and municipality guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all administrative tasks.
  • Receive payments from customers, issue receipts, and reconcile transactions with sales figures.
  • Prepare beverages according to set standards and recipes, with a complete and thorough knowledge of all menu items, including coffee.
  • Provide positive and professional service to exceed customer expectations.
  • Take and process customer orders accurately and promptly, following the sequence of service standards as per brand guidelines.
  • Ensure food and beverage quality and consistency meet brand guidelines and company standards.

Requirements

  • High school Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 2 years operational experience in relevant role in Food and Beverage.
  • Highly organized with strong multitasking skills.
  • Adapt in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent listening abilities.
  • English Full professional proficiency - Required.

Desired candidate profile

1. Coffee Knowledge and Expertise

  • Espresso Preparation: Proficiency in making espresso shots and using an espresso machine to create coffee-based drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos.
  • Grind and Brew Knowledge: Understanding the importance of grind size, brewing time, and water temperature for different coffee beans.
  • Milk Frothing: Skills in frothing milk for drinks like cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos.
  • Understanding Coffee Beans: Knowledge of different types of coffee beans (Arabica, Robusta, etc.) and how they affect flavor and strength.

2. Customer Service Skills

  • Friendly Communication: Greeting customers warmly and taking orders in a professional and approachable manner.
  • Problem-Solving: Addressing customer complaints or special requests with patience and creativity.
  • Personalized Recommendations: Suggesting coffee drinks or pastries based on customers’ preferences or dietary needs.
  • Multitasking: Handling multiple orders at once, ensuring both speed and quality of service.

3. Attention to Detail

  • Consistency: Preparing each drink consistently to meet the coffee shop’s standards.
  • Precision: Measuring ingredients correctly to ensure the right flavor profile for each beverage.
  • Presentation: Ensuring drinks are visually appealing (e.g., latte art, clean cups).

4. Speed and Efficiency

  • Time Management: Preparing drinks quickly during busy periods without sacrificing quality.
  • Handling High-Volume Rushes: Maintaining composure and efficiency when serving a large number of customers.

5. Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Working with Others: Coordinating with other baristas, kitchen staff, and managers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Training New Staff: Helping train and mentor new baristas or junior staff.

6. Health and Safety

  • Sanitation and Hygiene: Maintaining a clean working environment, following safety regulations and keeping equipment sanitized.
  • Knowledge of Allergens: Being aware of common allergens in beverages (e.g., dairy, nuts) and informing customers.
