Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

As the Construction Director, you will manage the execution of the assigned projects, ensuring that all activities from design, permitting, procurement, construction, to commissioning, energization, testing and handover of the project achieving best-in-class levels of QHSE, business and manpower performance during all phases within budget, meeting stringent schedule, demonstrating innovation in technology definition, and coordinating complex interfaces.

Responsibilities not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the planning, control and delivery of the assigned renewable energy project on behalf of Masdar, in order to ensure its effective execution and delivery in compliance with key parameters related to quality, standards and time while overseeing cost, invoice management, procurement management, and others including delegation of authority to allow smooth project execution.
  • Lead and manage the planning, control the de-commissioning of the plant and manage the re- construction of the plant.
  • Oversee consultants, engineering, and contractors in carrying out the engineering design of the project, procuring all the equipment and materials necessary, and then constructing to deliver a functioning asset to the client.
  • Provide assurance and support in the decision making process on various planning, design, procurement, control, and execution issues including performance of sub-contractors, vendors, partners as well as claims, variations, and other measures as necessary.
  • Inform the management and steering committee of any major project delays and identify critical issues and propose mitigation plan.
  • Support in the development of projects in line with guidance and supporting from the steering committee.
  • Lead the effective execution and delivery of projects in line with the approved business case, ensuring compliance with key project parameters.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics or related discipline.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in a technical discipline is preferred..
  • PMC or Prince 2 certification will have added advantage

Preferred Experience:

  • 10-15 years of experience within renewable energy, in particular PV Projects, preferably with local and global exposure, with roles focused on business development, and/or project management/governance.
  • Similar and related experience in international projects, preferably Middle East, CIS region is required

Desired candidate profile

Project Management

  • Project Oversight: Lead and manage multiple construction projects from inception to completion. Ensure that each project is completed on time, within budget, and meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and schedules. Monitor and adjust these plans to ensure projects remain on track.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop detailed project budgets and track expenses throughout the lifecycle of each project. Implement cost-control measures to ensure financial efficiency and reduce risk of cost overruns.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Team Management: Lead a team of project managers, site supervisors, engineers, and construction workers. Ensure the team is aligned with the company’s goals and project objectives.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure that labor, materials, and equipment are efficiently allocated across projects to optimize productivity and ensure timely project completion.
  • Hiring and Training: Oversee the recruitment of key personnel for the construction projects. Develop training programs for the team to ensure that they are up to date with the latest construction techniques, safety standards, and regulations.

Quality Control and Safety Management

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all construction work meets or exceeds industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory guidelines. Conduct inspections and manage third-party quality audits.
  • Safety Standards: Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all construction personnel. Monitor safety compliance on-site and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with construction projects, such as safety hazards, financial risks, and supply chain disruptions. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and handle unforeseen challenges effectively.

Stakeholder Management

  • Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between the client and the construction team. Ensure that the client’s expectations are met and provide regular project updates.
  • Collaboration with Architects and Engineers: Work closely with architects, engineers, and other consultants to ensure the project is built according to design specifications. Address any design or technical issues that arise during the construction process.
  • Government and Regulatory Relations: Ensure all projects comply with local regulations, building codes, and zoning laws. Liaise with local authorities and other stakeholders to address regulatory concerns or permit requirements.

Contract and Vendor Management

  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors. Ensure that terms are favorable, costs are controlled, and timelines are clear.
  • Vendor Selection: Source and select subcontractors and suppliers based on performance, cost, and quality. Maintain relationships with key vendors and ensure that materials and labor are delivered on time.
  • Dispute Resolution: Handle disputes with subcontractors or suppliers promptly and efficiently, ensuring that projects continue without significant delays.

Financial Management

  • Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Develop accurate cost estimates for new construction projects, taking into account labor, materials, equipment, and other expenses. Monitor budgets and adjust as needed to prevent overruns.
  • Profitability Management: Work to ensure projects are delivered within financial targets while maintaining the quality and scope agreed upon with clients.
