Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are currently looking for Piping Engineer to be based in Abu Dhabi location.

Main Purpose Of Role

Core Engineering Role to produce the volume of engineering activities on projects and within the business as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with relevant discipline from recognized university
  • Master degree in relevant discipline will be an added advantage

Essential

Knowledge / Experience (Skills):

  • 6-10 years of Oil & Gas Design Experience.

  • Previous experience in Region

Technical Knowledge And Skills (Discipline Specific)

  • Engineering design knowledge of oil and gas pipelines and associated systems such as pump stations, compressor stations, metering and regulating stations, slug catchers, tank farms and other facilities.
  • Feasibility studies, conceptual design, FEED, detail design, procurement support, construction, testing and commissioning.
  • Piping design, stress analysis, piping material selection, equipment and rotating machinery.
  • Ability to produce specifications, datasheets, material requisitions and piping layouts.
  • Ability to produce drawings such as piping layouts, plot plans, general arrangements and isometrics.
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D CADD applications
  • Knowledge of PDS or equivalent software
  • Working knowledge on international codes, standards and engineering practices
  • Technical Engineering Knowledge

  • Expertise in designing and analyzing piping systems for various industrial applications, including pressure, temperature, flow rate, and fluid dynamics considerations.
  • Familiarity with stress analysis, material selection, and pipe support design.
  • Proficiency in piping design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards

  • Strong understanding of piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, API 570, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code).
  • Ability to ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking

  • Ability to solve complex piping system issues related to design, stress, material selection, and installation.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct stress analysis and optimize piping designs for safety and efficiency.
  • Construction and Fabrication Knowledge

  • Familiarity with piping fabrication and construction processes, including welding, material selection, and installation practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot piping design or installation issues during construction or commissioning phases.
  • Collaboration and Communication

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., mechanical engineers, civil engineers, construction teams) and stakeholders.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and clients.
  • Attention to Detail

  • High level of accuracy in designing, analyzing, and reviewing piping systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Thoroughness in ensuring that all piping components meet project specifications and industry standards.
  • Project Management and Time Management

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines and project milestones.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, and coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.

Desired candidate profile

  • Piping Design and Layout

    • Develop piping designs and layouts for systems that transport fluids in industrial plants, ensuring proper functionality and efficiency.
    • Create detailed piping drawings and specifications, using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D) for the layout and installation of pipes, fittings, valves, and equipment.
    • Design pipe support systems, considering mechanical, thermal, and operational stresses.
  • Piping Stress Analysis

    • Perform stress analysis to evaluate the impact of thermal expansion, mechanical loads, vibration, and other forces on piping systems.
    • Use software such as CAESAR II or AutoPIPE to conduct stress and flexibility analysis, ensuring that the piping system is designed to handle the stresses and loads expected during operation.
    • Design systems to minimize risks such as pipe rupture, leakage, or fatigue due to stress.
  • Material Selection

    • Select appropriate materials for the piping systems based on factors such as fluid type, temperature, pressure, and environmental conditions (e.g., corrosion resistance).
    • Ensure that materials comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3 for process piping, ASME B31.1 for power piping).
  • Piping Codes and Standards Compliance

    • Ensure all piping designs comply with relevant national and international codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), and API 570.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards and regulations to ensure compliance in piping design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Construction Support

    • Provide support during the construction phase of piping systems, including reviewing contractor submittals, answering technical queries, and ensuring that the installation adheres to design specifications.
    • Troubleshoot any design or installation issues that arise during construction and suggest modifications if necessary.
    • Conduct or support on-site inspections to verify that piping systems are installed properly and safely.
  • Piping System Maintenance and Optimization

    • Oversee the maintenance of piping systems, ensuring they remain operational, safe, and efficient over time.
    • Recommend improvements or upgrades to piping systems based on performance, safety concerns, or new technological advancements.
    • Implement regular inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to ensure piping integrity.
