Job Description: Mechanical Technician - Motors & Compressors (Petrochemicals)

Position Overview: The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of motors and compressors in a petrochemical facility. This role ensures optimal performance and reliability of mechanical systems critical to operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electric motors and compressors.

Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.

Conduct testing and adjustments to ensure proper functioning of equipment.

Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize equipment performance.

Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.

Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks in the facility.

Assist in the installation and commissioning of new motors and compressor systems.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.

Proven experience as a mechanical technician, particularly with motors and compressors in an industrial setting.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, troubleshooting techniques, and maintenance practices.

Proficient in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance software.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and handle heavy equipment and tools.

These technicians ensure that machinery and equipment operate smoothly, efficiently, and safely. Mechanical technicians work with a wide range of mechanical devices, from industrial machinery to HVAC systems, engines, and manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Technician:

1. Installation and Assembly:

   • Install Mechanical Systems and Equipment: Set up and install new mechanical systems, machines, or components as per specifications and blueprints. This can include assembling parts, wiring, and calibrating systems for correct operation.
   • Test Installations: Perform tests to verify that installed equipment and machinery operate according to specifications and safety standards.

2. Maintenance and Repairs:

   • Routine Maintenance: Perform regular preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and machinery to ensure that they are functioning properly and to minimize the risk of breakdowns.
   • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose mechanical issues, identify the causes of failures, and repair or replace defective parts. This may include repairing motors, pumps, valves, compressors, and HVAC systems.
   • Lubrication and Adjustments: Ensure that moving parts are properly lubricated and adjust components such as belts, gears, and pulleys to prevent wear and tear.

3. Testing and Inspection:

   • System Testing: Test mechanical equipment and systems after installation, repair, or maintenance to ensure proper functioning. This could involve using diagnostic tools like pressure gauges, thermometers, or vibration sensors.
   • Inspect Mechanical Parts: Perform visual and mechanical inspections on parts such as gears, bearings, pistons, and shafts to detect wear, damage, or faults. Replace worn or damaged parts to maintain operational efficiency.

4. Blueprint and Technical Drawing Interpretation:

   • Read Technical Documents: Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints to understand how mechanical systems or machinery should be assembled, installed, or repaired.
   • Create Reports: Record maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used in maintenance logs or digital systems.
