Job Description: Instrument Technician - Electric Level Transmitters (Automated Systems)

Position Overview: The Instrument Technician will assist in the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electric level transmitters and associated automated systems within a petrochemical facility. This role ensures accurate level measurement and reliable operation of instrumentation systems.

Install, maintain, and repair electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation. Calibrate instrumentation equipment to ensure precision and reliability. Troubleshoot and solve issues related to sensors, detectors, and system controls. Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the installation and configuration of electric level transmitters in automated systems.

Perform calibration and maintenance of level transmitters to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to level measurement systems, including wiring and connectivity.

Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support instrumentation projects and upgrades.

Maintain documentation of calibration, maintenance, and repair activities.

Support the implementation of preventive maintenance programs for instrumentation.

Ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices during all work activities.

This role is critical in industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, and pharmaceuticals, where precise measurements and control of variables (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow, level) are necessary for the safe and efficient operation of machinery and processes.

Core Skills of an Instrument Technician:

1. Instrumentation Knowledge:

  • Understanding of various types of measuring instruments, including pressure gauges, thermocouples, flow meters, level sensors, and analyzers.
  • Familiarity with different sensor technologies like capacitive, inductive, piezoelectric, and resistive.
  • Knowledge of control loops (e.g., Proportional-Integral-Derivative - PID controllers).

2. Calibration Skills:

  • Ability to calibrate instruments to ensure accurate measurements.
  • Understanding of calibration standards and procedures for different instruments.
  • Knowledge of calibration equipment such as deadweight testers, precision sources, and standards.

Desired candidate profile

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in instrumentation or a related field preferred.

Experience with electric level transmitters and automated systems in an industrial setting.

Strong understanding of instrumentation principles and troubleshooting techniques.

Proficient in using calibration and diagnostic tools.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

Willingness to work in diverse environments and adapt to varying conditions. To lift and handle equipment as needed.
