Roles and responsibilities
- Supports adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Supports the standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
- Contributes to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful.
- Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence.
- Supports checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
- Prepare plans, layouts and designs with supporting calculations for specifications, and supply drafting and estimating staff with information to assist in the production of detailed drawings, the development of tools,quantities, materials lists and cost estimates as required.
- Check plans, designs and materials for conformity with specifications.
- Performs studies, design concepts, design criteria, reports, plant layout drawings, detail design and construction drawings.
- Prepares materials and writes construction specifications.
- May conduct surveys, studies, and site investigations.
- Prepares and issues drawing packages.
- Provides technical guidance to Drafters and Designers working on the same project.
- Ensures compliance of design with applicable codes and regulations
Project Execution
- Knows the discipline scope/cost/time requirements, assists the team to meet expectations, and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure project success.
- Supports management of project change and progressing for the discipline and works with the Project Management Team to take corrective actions regarding any issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, progressing, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
- Plans discipline quality, monitors quality activities, recommends improvements, and takes action where required.
- Provide technical support within the discipline team, liaise with the project team, and consult with relevant resources as required.
Major Accountabilities Of Position
- Coordinate review and approval of design and interfaces on client requirements and specifications.
- Ensure all work is checked and approved before issue.
- Responsible for maintaining work progress (budget, schedule) and raising change documentation where necessary.
- Liaise with research and development engineers regarding development work or construction and production engineers regarding manufacture of designed products or planned structures.
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, consultants or commissioning engineers concerning the design, installation or construction and commissioning of assigned work.
- Assist in the preparation of technical detail for sales inquiries, quotations, contract documentation, technical literature or in the analysis of failures following customer complaints.
- Extracts engineering and estimating information from drawings.
- Study and implement Lessons-Learnt from previous projects.
- Respond to Contractor's Requests for Information (RFIs) and review Contractor's shop drawings
Desired candidate profile
- Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc.
- Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc.
- Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval.
- Perform discipline specific engineering services such as:
- Identify and report changes to project scope;
- Contribute to appropriate studies, analyses and recommend actions;
- Assist with the preparation of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations and reports;
- Provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
- Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from an accredited university
- MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) 'Grade A' Professional Registration is a mandatory requirement.
- Candidates not holding this accreditation must be willing to achieve this within the probationary period.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or undertaking the same will be an advantage
