Occupational Health Practitioner

Job Description Job Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communications with clients, managers and other professionals to ensure seamless service delivery and continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate, appropriate and confidential staff and statutory records in accordance with department/NMC guidance on note taking and HSE requirements. Produce clear, concise factual reports within expected time frame.
• Ensure vaccines are stored appropriately and use Patient Group Directions (PGDs) to deliver immunisation/vaccination and treatment programmes in accordance with Occupational Health Department policies and procedures and ensure that all other OH nurses work to PGDs as described.
• Maintain stocks and supplies to ensure availability of vaccines and clinical equipment.
• Risk assess and manage blood and body fluid contamination incidents and advise on the need for post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) in accordance with Trust policy, in conjunction with the senior nurse.
• Assess the working environment following managerial/self-referral or pre-employment health assessment, referring to the senior nurses as necessary.
• Comply with the principles of risk management promoting high standards, acting immediately on hazards or unsafe practices within the department and organisation, liaising with other disciplines as necessary.
• Identify to the Head of department/Principal OH Practitioner circumstances where breach of confidentiality may be warranted to inform Trust management where an employee or patients safety is at risk.
• Participate in staff induction as required, ensuring the services of the OHD is adequately publicized.
