• Performs underwater inspections of Port vessels.
• Performs underwater inspections of fender and bearing piles, examining the condition of each one along the entire length from the mudline to the cap; reports damaged, partially missing, or missing piles to the standby diver.
• Performs underwater inspections of concrete piles: scrapes and cleans piles to remove marine growth in order to determine extent of damage to the underlying concrete; reports damaged piles to the standby diver.
• Performs visual inspections of concrete piles to note cracks, spalling, rust spots, deterioration of circumference, and exposed steel reinforcement of piles; reports damaged piles to the standby diver.
• Performs as tender or standby diver, remaining topside on a float or punt while divers are in the water; takes notes of the damaged piles reported by divers; terminates the dive if conditions warrant.
• Repairs or inspects repair of bearing piles by wrapping or rewrapping the piles using wraps to keep marine boring organisms from causing further damage.
• Repairs or inspects repair of concrete piles.
• Maintains pile inspection and repair records, using manual and computer assisted drafting techniques; prepares reports on pile condition and other findings.
• Operates boom trucks and small outboard motor driven boats and punts and floats.
• Operates hand and power tools such as chain saws, compressors, and carpentry tools.
• Uses and maintains in optimal working condition sport and commercial- type diving gear and support equipment for underwater work.
