Lakeside has been engaged by a family-owned mechanical and garage spring manufacturer located in the North Metro of the Twin Cities to recruit for their first Senior HR Manager. Our client prides themselves on the strategic partnership they build with their clients and operates on a firm tradition of bringing their clients quality springs and service solutions that are first in every class. They have three strategically located plants that serve the entire US – they have their corporate headquarters in Minnesota, and two plant locations in Ohio and Arizona.

Reporting to the Director of HR, our client is looking for a Senior Human Resources Manager role. This is a new role within the organization and will have 4 direct reports, located in MN and Ohio. This person will be responsible for all aspects of managing the human resources function in alignment with the Company’s mission, values and objectives and in compliance with applicable employment laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the Human Resources department to include work performance, team development and alignment with business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain consistent, relevant best practices and systems for job descriptions, recruitment, employee onboarding, performance management/reviews, HRIS, recognition, employee communication, etc.
  • Oversee talent acquisition activities including recruitment, interviewing and candidate selection. Coordinate recruitment of professional and leadership positions.
  • Develop and implement creative and impactful talent acquisition strategies, including the company’s recruitment brand, candidate sourcing activities and external recruitment partnerships. Evaluate strategy effectiveness and adjust as appropriate.
  • Research and propose compensation and benefit programs that are competitive in the marketplace and consistent with Company compensation philosophy. Oversee annual benefits enrollment and broker negotiations.
  • Oversee the employee experience, including employee onboarding processes, employee surveys and stay/exit interviews.
  • Provide human resources policy guidance and interpretation on topics such as hiring, benefits, compensation, employee relations issues, performance coaching and disciplinary action.
  • Develop, recommend, and communicate Human Resources policies and practices that comply with State and Federal laws and are consistent with organizational philosophy. Monitor compliance with policies and practices.
  • Develop and monitor metrics and analytics used to evaluate effectiveness of various human resources programs and activities.
  • Ensure completion and maintenance of all required paperwork, documentation, files and electronic records.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Partner to improve work relationships, build employee engagement and increase productivity and retention.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with community partners and vendors.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve customers concerns and enhance efficiencies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment by educating and directing team members on use of equipment and resources.
  • Adhere to and maintain compliance with established Company systems, policies and procedures.
  • Keep supervisor(s) and other members of management informed of human resources progress, issues and successes.
  • Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for continuous performance and process improvements.
  • Foster a spirit of cooperation and teamwork within and between departments and shifts.
  • Work continually toward professional development to stay current on relevant industry trends and human resources, training and development and supervisory procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrate and uphold Company values.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, coaching and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; maintaining confidentiality; timekeeping. Challenges others to develop as leaders, while serving as a role model and mentor.

Skill, Competency and Experience Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field and a minimum 7-10 years of human resources experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory/management experience required. Experience leading a Human Resources team preferred.
  • Human Resources certification preferred (i.e. SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP).
  • Strong computer skill proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS platforms required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to compose concise and clear correspondence, reports and manuals.
  • Ability to guide others and provide work direction. Ability to speak, effectively present information and respond to questions before groups of employees, customers and vendors.
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and best practices to make responsible, legal and compliant decisions.
  • Demonstrated sound judgement, problem solving, conflict management and decision-making on sensitive and confidential issues.
  • A high level of attention to detail, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and to coordinate and administer complex administrative systems and processes.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and work with established deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to policy and procedure manuals, technical instructions, general business periodicals and safety protocols.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations, involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interpret data, formulas, equations, and graphs in most complex forms.
  • Strong customer service (internal and external) focus.

This position requires 25% travel to other locations.
