Roles and responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Sustainability Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating with local authorities, contributing to ESG reporting, and developing sustainability plans. This role requires a strong understanding of Estidama and LEED requirements, as well as excellent communication and coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regularly meet with ADM and EAD Authorities to coordinate required actions according to local guidelines and ensure their implementation on site.
- Contribute to the company’s ESG reporting and develop plans to minimize GHG emissions and carbon footprint.
- Manage and prepare sustainability plans, including sustainability implementation strategies and procurement plans.
- Implement all Estidama/LEED design requirements during the construction stage through material submittals and shop drawings.
- Serve as the Environmental and Sustainability representative during weekly progress meetings with clients and authorities.
- Manage and prepare all Estidama/LEED construction audit reports for submission to authorities.
- Provide monthly/weekly reports to clients on all related Estidama/LEED compliances and trackers.
- Coordinate fully with all project traders, stakeholders, and subcontractors to ensure full compliance with the project’s contractual environmental and sustainability rating system.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Proven experience in sustainability engineering, with a focus on Estidama and LEED requirements.
- Strong understanding of ESG reporting and sustainability planning.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and authorities.
- Proficiency in sustainability software and tools.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in LEED AP, Estidama, or similar sustainability credentials.
- Experience in managing sustainability projects in the construction industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

1. Environmental and Sustainability Expertise
- Sustainable Design and Practices: In-depth knowledge of sustainable engineering principles, such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, renewable energy integration, and sustainable building materials.
- Energy Modeling and Analysis: Ability to perform energy modeling and analysis to determine energy needs and identify opportunities for energy reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Experience in conducting or reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments to evaluate the potential environmental consequences of projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and sustainability goals.
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): Knowledge of assessing the environmental impacts of materials, systems, and processes over their life cycle, from production to disposal.
- Climate Change Mitigation: Expertise in strategies for reducing carbon footprints, implementing carbon offsetting, and working towards net-zero emissions goals.
2. Technical Skills
- Building Information Modeling (BIM): Proficiency in BIM tools to design and analyze building systems that incorporate sustainable elements and energy-efficient systems.
- Green Building Certifications: Knowledge of sustainable building certifications such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), and WELL Building Standard. Experience in helping projects achieve these certifications.
- Renewable Energy Systems: Expertise in renewable energy solutions such as solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy, and integrating these technologies into projects.
- Energy Management Systems: Understanding and experience in implementing energy management systems (e.g., ISO 50001) to optimize energy use within buildings, facilities, or infrastructure.
- HVAC and Environmental Systems Design: Experience in designing, specifying, and optimizing HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems to meet energy efficiency and sustainability targets.
3. Project Management and Leadership
- Project Leadership: Leading sustainability aspects of engineering projects, ensuring that sustainability goals are embedded in all phases of project development, from planning and design to construction and operation.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to integrate sustainable solutions and ensure alignment with sustainability goals.
- Team Leadership: Supervising, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and sustainability specialists, ensuring the team has the skills and resources to achieve sustainability targets.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all projects comply with relevant environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and policies at local, national, and international levels.
4. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- Data Analysis: Analyzing data related to energy consumption, resource use, waste production, and emissions to identify areas for improvement and develop actionable sustainability strategies.
- Optimization of Systems: Identifying and implementing solutions for optimizing the performance of energy systems, waste management systems, and water treatment systems to reduce environmental impact.
- Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot sustainability-related issues that arise during the planning, construction, or operation phases, finding effective and sustainable solutions.
