Roles and responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Associate Cost Manager with a pre-contract bias, to support our exciting growth plans, working with our key Abu Dhabi clients. The Associate Cost Manager will support the successful delivery of our clients capital projects and programmes of work.
You will be joining an established team of like-minded experts that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions. As an Associate Cost Manager within our Buildings & Places Cost Consultancy team, you will provide a comprehensive, accurate and value driven service for large, high profile and exciting key clients.
The role will cover all aspects of cost management throughout the whole project lifecycle from initial inception / business case through to completion / commissioning. The role also provides the opportunity to support the growth of the business and management/development of team members.
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Lead and deliver all aspects of cost management from inception of a project through to completion.
- Achieve the highest standards of professional competence and to demonstrate this ability in all dealings with clients and professional contacts, reinforcing the profile of the company.
- Drive performance standards and technical excellence through expert communication and effective use of the performance management process and AECOM technical practice networks.
- Maintain and develop good relationships with clients, take every opportunity to uphold and increase the profile of the firm as a provider of professional, premium quality services to the construction industry.
- Actively support the internal team and manage more junior staff on technically complex projects.
- Develop marketing opportunities and where appropriate bring to the attention of Directors and the Business Development Department, in order that they may assist in following up potential leads enabling the development of new business.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Skills/experience required:
- Significant experience and strong track record in the Cost Management/Quantity Surveying field.
- Strong pre-contract cost management experience.
- Experience of undertaking cost/commercial management as part of integrated, multi-organisation, collaborative teams
- Ability to identify and influence key client stakeholders, building effective relationships to grow workload/portfolio
- Good working knowledge of FIDIC contracts
Desired candidate profile
1. Cost Estimation and Budgeting
- Cost Estimation: Proficiency in estimating the cost of materials, labor, equipment, and other resources needed for a project, considering both direct and indirect costs.
- Budget Development: Ability to assist in creating and managing project budgets, ensuring they align with project goals and financial constraints.
- Cost Forecasting: Regularly updating cost forecasts to reflect changes in the scope of the project or unforeseen circumstances, ensuring financial targets are met.
2. Cost Control and Monitoring
- Cost Tracking: Monitoring project expenditures to ensure that spending is in line with the approved budget. This includes tracking and recording costs in real time, using cost control tools and software.
- Variance Analysis: Identifying cost variances (differences between estimated and actual costs), analyzing the reasons for these variances, and recommending corrective actions.
- Cost Reporting: Producing cost reports that communicate financial performance and projections to project stakeholders, including project managers, senior cost managers, and clients.
3. Financial Management Tools and Software
- Cost Management Software: Proficiency in using cost management or project management software (e.g., Procore, Oracle Primavera, Aconex, or CostX) for budgeting, cost estimation, and tracking.
- Spreadsheet Analysis: Advanced skills in spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel for performing calculations, creating financial models, and preparing reports.
- Project Management Software: Experience using project management software to track project progress, resources, and associated costs (e.g., Microsoft Project, Buildertrend).
