. Data Collection & Analysis
- Data Gathering: Collecting data through various methods such as surveys, interviews, experiments, or secondary research (e.g., literature reviews, existing reports, databases).
- Data Cleaning: Ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and free of errors by checking for discrepancies, removing outliers, and organizing data for analysis.
- Data Analysis: Analyzing the collected data using statistical or qualitative methods, and using software tools like Excel, SPSS, R, or Python to identify trends, patterns, or insights.
- Survey Design: Assisting in designing questionnaires, interview guides, or survey instruments to gather relevant data from participants.
2. Literature Reviews & Background Research
- Conducting Literature Reviews: Researching existing studies, reports, and academic papers related to the topic of study to identify knowledge gaps or inform hypotheses.
- Sourcing Academic Papers: Using academic databases such as Google Scholar, JSTOR, or PubMed to find relevant research articles and studies.
- Synthesizing Information: Summarizing findings from existing research and presenting them to senior researchers or teams in a clear and concise manner.
3. Report Writing & Documentation
- Documenting Findings: Writing up research findings, including methodologies, results, and interpretations, in a clear and structured format.
- Supporting Paper Drafts: Assisting in drafting academic papers, reports, or presentations by contributing to sections such as literature review, methodology, or results.
- Preparing Presentations: Creating presentations or visual aids (charts, graphs, tables) to present findings to internal teams, stakeholders, or external audiences.
4. Assisting in Experimentation or Fieldwork
- Supporting Experiments: Assisting in setting up experiments, running trials, or conducting fieldwork for primary research, depending on the area of focus (e.g., lab experiments in science, focus groups in social research).
- Data Recording: Accurately recording observations and results during experimental procedures or field visits.
- Handling Equipment: Using research tools, instruments, or software necessary for gathering or analyzing data, such as laboratory equipment, sensors, or research software.
5. Collaboration & Team Support
- Team Collaboration: Working closely with senior researchers, project managers, or research teams to ensure that tasks are completed according to the project timeline.
- Providing Administrative Support: Assisting with scheduling meetings, managing research documentation, or organizing research materials.
- Attending Meetings: Participating in research team meetings, providing updates on progress, and contributing to discussions on research methods or results.
6. Quality Control & Research Integrity
- Ensuring Accuracy: Ensuring that all collected data and research findings are accurate, reliable, and valid.
- Maintaining Ethical Standards: Following ethical guidelines for research, ensuring participant confidentiality (if applicable), and adhering to research protocols.
- Compliance with Regulations: Ensuring that all research is conducted in compliance with relevant industry regulations or ethical guidelines, such as those set by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) in academic or healthcare research.
Desired candidate profile
The Junior Quant Researcher’s main responsibilities will be conducting quant alpha signal research whilst ensuring that the latest academic research is being followed and analysed correctly. Additionally, this role will be building analytical tools to supplement the research framework. The Junior Quant Researcher will be in charge of all aspects of the research process including idea generation, data analysis, hypothesis development and testing, alpha discovery, trading strategy generation, back testing and portfolio analysis.
To be considered for this role, the successful candidate must have a Masters or PHD in Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Programming in Python and SQL is a must and working knowledge other programming languages is desirable.
