Roles and responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Engineering Supervisor and/or Shift Leader, and within the limits of established hotel’s policies and procedures, ensures that all the Engineering & Maintenance issues are in line and preventive maintenance is performed in order for the Hotels equipment to be operated with maximum efficiency to achieve guest satisfaction.
A little taste of your day-to-day:
- Follow all company safety, security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications; and properly store flammable materials.
- Respond and attend to guest repair requests, communicate with guests to resolve maintenance issues.
- Display proficiency the following categories, above average skills in the following categories and basic skills in the remaining categories: plumbing, boilers, and swimming pool.
- Use the Lockout / Tag out system before performing any maintenance work.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains chilled water, heat, water, gas, drainage, sewage, and other plumbing systems.
- Inspects joints, valves, pumps, boilers, sinks, tanks, valves, and other plumbing system components to locate malfunctions, and repairs or replaces when necessary.
- Performs preventative maintenance work as required.
- Performs boiler’s frequent inspection checks and regular maintenance on boiler systems, related valves, gauges, piping, and other equipment, Record daily gas readings, feed water tests, and other test results.
- Assist with the implementation of the hotel’s preventive maintenance system and repair log system
- Prioritize work in line with guest requests and management priorities
- Inform superior of the status of repairs and pending costs and indicate when it would be reasonable to consider replacement
- Record daily service work, including maintaining individual replacement costs along with time
- Keep all boiler rooms, related facilities, and work areas clean and always organized.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains public swimming pools, water systems, filter systems, pumps, and playground equipment, maintain the proper chemical balance for the pool.
- Have complete understanding of the policy relating to fire, safety, and health

Desired candidate profile
1. Installation and Setup
- Pipe Installation: Installing pipes for water, gas, and sewage systems. This involves measuring, cutting, and fitting pipes using various materials, including PVC, copper, and steel.
- Fixture Installation: Installing sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, dishwashers, water heaters, and other plumbing fixtures and appliances.
- System Setup: Setting up water supply lines, drainage systems, and venting systems to ensure that everything functions properly.
- Soldering and Welding: Using specialized techniques to join metal pipes and fittings (e.g., soldering copper pipes or welding steel pipes).
2. Maintenance and Repairs
- Fixing Leaks: Identifying and repairing leaks in pipes, fixtures, and fittings to prevent water wastage and damage to property.
- Clog Removal: Clearing clogged drains and toilets using tools like plungers, augers, or hydro-jetting equipment.
- Water Heater Repairs: Diagnosing and fixing issues with water heaters, ensuring they work efficiently and reliably.
- Pressure Testing: Checking the pressure levels of water and gas lines to identify any weaknesses, leaks, or blockages in the system.
3. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
- System Diagnostics: Identifying the cause of plumbing issues such as low water pressure, strange noises, or faulty heating systems through inspections and diagnostic tools.
- Problem-Solving: Using critical thinking and technical skills to resolve complex plumbing issues, whether it's a burst pipe, backflow problem, or malfunctioning appliance.
- Pipe Inspections: Performing inspections of existing plumbing systems to identify potential future problems, such as corrosion, wear and tear, or blocked pipes.
4. Water Conservation and Efficiency
- Installing Water-Efficient Fixtures: Installing low-flow faucets, showerheads, and energy-efficient appliances to help conserve water and reduce utility bills.
- Upgrading Systems: Upgrading older plumbing systems with more energy-efficient solutions, such as installing modern water heaters or water filtration systems.
5. Safety and Code Compliance
- Adhering to Regulations: Ensuring that all plumbing work complies with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Health and Safety: Using protective equipment and tools to ensure personal safety and the safety of the surrounding environment when working with hazardous materials like sewage or gas.
- Water and Gas Safety: Taking precautions when working with water or gas lines to prevent leaks, flooding, or explosions.
6. Customer Service and Communication
- Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their plumbing needs, explaining issues, and providing estimates for repair or installation work.
- Providing Advice: Offering expert advice on plumbing system maintenance and improvements to clients, helping them avoid future issues and extend the life of their plumbing systems.
- Follow-up: Ensuring customer satisfaction by following up on completed work and addressing any remaining concerns or questions.
7. Tools and Equipment Use
- Using Specialized Tools: Mastering the use of plumbing tools and equipment, including pipe wrenches, pliers, augers, pipe benders, plungers, and more.
- Operating Power Tools: Using power tools, such as drills, saws, and cutters, for tasks like pipe cutting, threading, or wall installation.
- Measuring and Cutting: Accurately measuring and cutting pipes, ensuring they fit correctly within the plumbing system and are secure.
