Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Leadership and Team Management

  • Team Oversight: Managing the accounting and finance teams, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and timely completion of tasks.
  • Mentoring: Training and developing team members to improve skills and maintain a high-performing finance team.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other departments and executives to align financial strategies with overall business goals.

2. Technical Accounting Expertise

  • Accounting Standards: In-depth knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  • Financial Reporting: Proficiency in preparing accurate financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements.
  • Taxation and Compliance: Expertise in corporate taxation, regulatory requirements, and ensuring compliance with laws and standards.

3. Analytical and Strategic Thinking

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and financial models to guide decision-making.
  • Data Analysis: Analyzing financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning: Supporting long-term business planning with actionable financial insights.

4. Financial Systems and Technology

  • ERP Systems: Proficiency in using financial and accounting software like SAP, Oracle, or QuickBooks.
  • Data Visualization Tools: Ability to use tools like Power BI or Tableau for presenting financial insights.
  • Process Automation: Implementing technology to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.

5. Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicating complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Decision Support: Providing actionable financial insights to executives and helping guide business decisions.
  • Negotiation Skills: Collaborating with auditors, regulators, and vendors to achieve favorable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities of a Financial Controller

1. Financial Management and Oversight

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring performance, and recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Cash Flow Management: Ensuring sufficient cash flow to meet operational needs and strategic investments.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.

2. Compliance and Risk Management

  • Audit Coordination: Managing internal and external audits, ensuring financial records are accurate and compliant.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to tax laws, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identifying financial risks and implementing controls to protect the organization’s assets.

3. Operational Efficiency

  • System Optimization: Implementing and managing financial systems to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy.
  • Cost Control: Monitoring expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Process Improvement: Developing and maintaining internal controls to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.

4. Strategic Planning and Decision Support

  • Financial Strategy: Contributing to the development of the organization's financial and business strategies.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Providing financial analysis and due diligence for potential acquisitions or mergers.
  • Performance Monitoring: Tracking KPIs and providing insights to drive strategic initiatives.

Desired candidate profile


You will take the lead on the hotel's financial strategy, operational performance, financial reporting, setting up & optimizing internal controls, team management & development, capital expenditure review & developing productive relationships with 3rd parties in the region. The role will work closely with the Hotel General Manager, cross functional Executive Team & Corporate Office to set up, establish & drive the performance of the hotel.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field & professional accounting qualification
  • Minimum 5 years experience at managerial level that includes:
  • Track record of driving hotel finance performance.
  • Strong technical accounting, finance & taxation skills.
  • Preparation, review, analysis & presentation of management & statutory reporting.
  • Extensive Knowledge of hotel internal controls.
  • Knowledge of budget process.
  • Team Management, with ability to meet tight deadlines & coach team.
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Rebranding/pre-opening experience & having set up and managed a cluster finance operation is an advantage.
  • English skills: excellent verbal and written communication is required.
  • Computer literate, including systems implementation & knowledge of Sun, Opera & Micros
