Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The Transport Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of transportation services, including guest transfers, staff transportation, and logistics. This role requires excellent organizational skills, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to ensuring safety and providing exceptional service to our guests.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all transportation activities, including guest and staff transfers.
  • Oversee and manage the marine logistics operations.
  • Develop and implement transportation schedules to optimize fleet efficiency and ensure prompt service for guests and staff.
  • Monitor the maintenance and condition of all vehicles and marine equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and hotel standards.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of drivers, boat captains, and other transportation personnel, ensuring high levels of professionalism and customer service.
  • Collaborate with other hotel departments (e.g., Front Office, Concierge) to align transportation services with guest needs.
  • Manage the transportation budget, track expenses, and find cost-effective solutions without compromising service quality.
  • Coordinate with local transportation authorities and service providers for permits, compliance, and partnership opportunities.
  • Respond promptly to guest and staff inquiries or issues related to transportation, providing resolutions that enhance the overall hotel experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Transport Manager or in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong organizational and logistical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using transportation management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a remote island setting.

1. Leadership and Management

  • Team Leadership: Ability to lead and manage transportation teams, including drivers, dispatchers, and support staff, ensuring that all are aligned with operational goals.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make quick, effective decisions, particularly in situations where delays or disruptions occur.
  • Delegation: Delegating tasks efficiently to staff members and contractors, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and within budget.

2. Logistics and Planning

  • Route Planning: Strong knowledge of route planning, scheduling, and optimizing transportation routes to ensure timely deliveries and minimize fuel costs.
  • Supply Chain Management: Understanding of how transportation fits into the broader supply chain, including coordinating with other departments, such as warehousing and inventory management.
  • Fleet Management: Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and scheduling of vehicles, ensuring that they are always ready for use and compliant with safety standards.

3. Communication and Customer Service

  • Customer-Focused: Understanding customer needs and ensuring timely and reliable deliveries to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Clear Communication: Effectively communicating with customers, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring the flow of information is clear and accurate.
  • Conflict Resolution: Addressing customer complaints or delivery issues and finding solutions to avoid future problems.

4. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze transportation data (such as fuel usage, route efficiency, and delivery times) and use it to optimize operations.
  • Problem-Solving: Quickly resolving transportation issues, such as vehicle breakdowns, delays, or customer complaints, to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Cost Management: Identifying and implementing cost-saving strategies, such as optimizing routes or reducing fuel consumption, while maintaining service quality.

5. Financial Management

  • Budgeting: Overseeing the transportation budget, managing expenses related to fleet maintenance, fuel, labor, and logistics.
  • Cost Control: Finding opportunities to reduce costs through efficiency improvements and managing transportation contracts.
  • Pricing and Contracts: Negotiating contracts with transportation providers, suppliers, and vendors to get the best rates while maintaining quality service.
