Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The Senior Trader will be responsible for purchasing and selling commodities, ensuring the development and management of commercial relationships, customer and supplier satisfaction and the achievement of objectives set for the department. The role also involves contributing to the company's activities to accomplish the desired competitive positioning in the national and international markets.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development:

• Evaluate and develop new channels, products, services, and partnerships.

• Align activities with the company's strategy to achieve commercial objectives.

• Identify and capitalize on market opportunities and initiate innovative ideas.

• Drive & direct the team to achieve sales & income budgets annually.

Market Analysis:

• Monitor and analyze market trends, demand/supply dynamics, and world economic affairs.

• Provide timely market insights and recommendations to team members & management.

• Adapt trading strategies based on market conditions.

Commercial Management:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers.

• Negotiate deals, contracts, and resolve commercial issues minimizing risks and following them up together with logistics/quality and administrative department.

• Ensure accurate data entry and follow-up on contracts.

• Manage GDT auctions.

Leadership:

• Train and mentor the team

• Contribute to strategic direction alongside senior leadership.

• Collaborate with other inter and intra departmental sales teams, as required.

Credit and Logistics Management:

• Be hands on with collections and credit management.

• Work inline with Logistics/Quality and other Organizational functions in order proactively mitigate risks.

Qualifications and experience:

Educational Qualifications: Relevant degree in Food technology or Sciences

Experience: Minimum 10 - 15 years of relevant experience

Industries Acceptable From: Food & Beverage Commodities Trading / Agri / Dairy Ingredients

Role Specific Qualifications & Training: Proven experience within Dairy trade with agency management and P&L responsibility.

Languages Required: Fluency in English. Arabic is very advantageous.

Computer and Software Proficiency: Full MS Office Suite

Travel Availability / Time Flexibility 50%

Work Relationships: Internal: All stakeholders, VP/BUH/Functions/Dairy Team External: Clients and Suppliers.

Trading and Execution

  1. Market Analysis and Research

    • Conducting in-depth research to understand market trends, economic data, geopolitical events, and other factors influencing asset prices.
    • Analyzing financial reports, charts, and technical indicators to make informed trading decisions.
  2. Trade Execution

    • Buying and selling financial instruments according to the firm's or client's strategy.
    • Ensuring that trades are executed at optimal prices and in a timely manner, minimizing slippage.
  3. Portfolio Management

    • Overseeing and managing client portfolios or the firm’s investment portfolio.
    • Rebalancing portfolios based on market movements, client needs, or risk tolerance.
  4. Algorithmic Trading

    • Utilizing algorithmic trading strategies for high-frequency or large-scale trades.
    • Working with quantitative analysts to design and implement trading algorithms.
  5. Risk Management

    • Implementing strategies to minimize risk exposure in the portfolio, using techniques like stop-loss orders, hedging, and diversification.
    • Continuously assessing market conditions to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Strategy Development

  1. Developing Trading Strategies

    • Designing and testing trading strategies based on technical and fundamental analysis.
    • Developing both short-term (day trading) and long-term strategies (position trading or swing trading) based on the market environment.
  2. Market Timing

    • Determining the best entry and exit points for trades to maximize profits or minimize losses.
    • Adjusting trading strategies based on changes in market conditions or economic indicators.
  3. Trend Identification

    • Identifying trends and patterns in the market and capitalizing on them through trades.
    • Analyzing historical data and using technical analysis tools to predict future price movements.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  1. Leading a Trading Desk

    • Managing and mentoring junior traders, analysts, or interns on the trading floor.
    • Overseeing daily trading operations, providing guidance, and ensuring that the team adheres to company policies and risk management procedures.
  2. Collaboration with Other Departments

    • Working closely with other departments such as risk management, research, compliance, and sales to align trading activities with broader organizational goals.
    • Coordinating with analysts and economists to gather data and insights that inform trading decisions.
