Roles and responsibilities
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the performance and supervision of onshore laboratory activities and ensures that they are performed to satisfy the requirements of customers and deadlines are met in a timely manner.
Your Responsibilities As a Laboratory Manager
- Provide support to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer in ensuring that there are adequate resources to meet onshore laboratory testing demands.
- Approve all test reports after quality check by Assistant Laboratory Manager.
- Maintain onshore laboratory according to ISO 17025 standards and assist in obtaining the accreditation of the laboratory from an independent internationally recognized body.
- Understand all laboratory tests conducted in the onshore lab and conduct tests in the absence of the Senior Laboratory Technician or when required.
- Demonstrate management and administrative skills required for the laboratory.
- Ensure that equipment maintenance and cleaning is carried out.
- Schedule, direct and supervise laboratory personnel in conducting laboratory tests.

Your Qualities And Experience
You can make your mark as a Laboratory Manager if you have:
- B.Sc. level in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering/Civil Engineering or equivalent is preferred
- 10-12 years documented Laboratory experience, preferably in a geotechnical soil testing facility
- Computer literate
- Fluent in written and spoken English (as per the Horizon Communication Policy).
- Conversant with equipment and software used within the Company
Desired candidate profile
Laboratory Operations
- Manage and coordinate daily laboratory activities to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols.
- Oversee laboratory scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation.
Personnel Management
- Supervise, train, and evaluate laboratory staff, including technicians and researchers.
- Assign tasks and projects while ensuring proper workload distribution.
- Foster a safe and collaborative work environment.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for staff.
- Maintain compliance with relevant certifications, such as ISO standards or GLP/GMP regulations.
Equipment and Inventory Management
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
- Oversee procurement and inventory management of chemicals, reagents, and supplies.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs or replacement of faulty equipment.
Budget and Reporting
- Prepare and manage laboratory budgets, including expenses for supplies and equipment.
- Generate reports on laboratory activities, performance, and resource utilization.
- Monitor and control costs while meeting operational objectives.
Collaboration and Research Support
- Work closely with researchers, scientists, or production teams to support experiments and projects.
- Analyze and interpret data to ensure the reliability and accuracy of results.
- Assist in the development of new methodologies and techniques.
2. Technical Skills
Laboratory Techniques
- Proficiency in specific techniques relevant to the laboratory’s focus, such as:
- Microbiology, molecular biology, analytical chemistry, or quality control testing.
Data Analysis
- Experience with statistical and data analysis tools like SPSS, R, Python, or Excel.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for data tracking.
Instrumentation Knowledge
- Expertise in operating and maintaining specialized laboratory equipment, such as:
- Spectrophotometers, chromatographs (HPLC/GC), microscopes, or PCR machines.
3. Functional Knowledge
Regulatory Standards
- Familiarity with compliance standards like ISO 17025, GLP (Good Laboratory Practice), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), or FDA regulations.
- Understanding of safety protocols related to hazardous materials and waste management.
Project Management
- Ability to plan, execute, and oversee multiple projects while ensuring quality outcomes.
- Experience with project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Microsoft Project.
