Senior Piping Designer

Roles and responsibilities

A Senior Piping Designer is responsible for designing and drafting piping systems, ensuring that they meet safety, regulatory, and engineering standards. This role requires expertise in engineering design principles, an understanding of materials and construction methods, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other professionals to deliver high-quality piping designs for various industries, including oil and gas, power, petrochemical, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Piping Design and Drafting

   • Lead the design of piping systems, including layout, sizing, and material selection.
   • Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and piping isometrics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS, or Revit).
   • Develop piping design schematics and plans in line with project specifications and industry standards.

2. Project Coordination and Execution

   • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure the design meets the project requirements.
   • Coordinate with construction teams to ensure the designs are feasible and align with real-world conditions.
   • Ensure that designs are delivered on schedule and within budget.

3. Compliance and Standards Adherence

   • Ensure that designs comply with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API, DIN) and local regulatory requirements.
   • Verify that materials, welding, and fabrication methods meet the necessary specifications.
   • Conduct stress and flow analysis of piping systems to ensure system integrity.

4. Design Optimization

   • Optimize designs to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and minimize risks during installation and operation.
   • Identify potential design improvements or challenges during the planning and execution phases.
   • Apply industry best practices and innovative approaches to complex design challenges.

5. Documentation and Reporting

   • Prepare technical documentation, including design calculations, reports, and specifications.
   • Ensure proper documentation of materials, equipment, and vendor specifications.
   • Maintain organized records of revisions and updates to the piping designs.

6. Mentoring and Leadership

   • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior piping designers and CAD operators.
   • Lead design reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve design processes and outcomes.
   • Ensure quality control through peer reviews and continuous design optimization.

7. Problem-Solving

   • Troubleshoot and resolve design issues during the construction and installation phases.
   • Develop creative solutions to complex piping layout challenges, ensuring safety and functionality.

We are currently looking for a Senior Piping Designer to be based in Abu Dhabi location.

Main Purpose Of Role

Key Designer Role within the business to lead discipline designing performance on projects & to provide expert technical design leadership and design assurance on projects as required.

Qualifications

• Diploma of Engineering (Preferable)
  

Essential

Knowledge / Experience (Skills):

• 13 -20 years of Oil & Gas Design Experience.
  

Advantage

• Previous experience in Region
  

Technical Knowledge And Skills (Discipline Specific)

• Knowledge of basic engineering processes
• Familiarity with international codes, standards and engineering practices
• Thorough knowledge of onshore design engineering for the oil, gas and water field.
• Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD applications
• Knowledge of ESD is an added advantage
• Familiarity with CTB & different client protocols
• Familiarity with general arrangement & Isometrics
• Familiarity with Pipe Supports and Piping Schedule
• Familiarity with developing plot plans
