Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Legal Intern to join our team to accomplish tasks such as doing research, physical & Electronic filing, document retrieval and learning about daily affairs in the legal field. You will be based in Dubai and directly reporting to Legal Director for MEA Region.

How You Will Do It

As a Legal Intern, your responsibilities will be;

  • Review and analysis of Corporate Documents:
  • Assist in the review of corporate documents, including articles of incorporation, bylaws, and resolutions, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Physical Filing:
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining physical legal files.
  • Ensure proper labelling and categorization of documents.
  • Collaborate with team members to establish an efficient filing system.
  • Electronic Filing:
  • Manage and organize electronic legal documents and records.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of electronic files.
  • Document Retrieval:
  • Assist legal team members in retrieving both physical and electronic documents.
  • Ensure timely and accurate retrieval of information as needed.
  • Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular reviews of physical and electronic files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and rectify any discrepancies in the filing system.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with legal professionals to understand filing requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve filing processes.
  • Administrative Support:
  • Provide general administrative support to the legal team as needed.
  • Perform tasks such as photocopying, scanning, and data entry.

Required

What we look for

  • Currently enrolled in a law school program or recent law school graduate.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in both physical and electronic filing systems.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to a dynamic legal environment.

Desired candidate profile

1. Legal Research Skills

  • Researching legal precedents: Ability to find relevant case law, statutes, and legal articles.
  • Understanding legal databases: Familiarity with tools like Westlaw, LexisNexis, or Bloomberg Law to conduct legal research efficiently.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing information: Ability to distill complex legal information into understandable summaries.

2. Legal Writing Skills

  • Drafting legal documents: Writing memos, briefs, and motions under the guidance of attorneys.
  • Clear and concise communication: Writing with precision to ensure clarity and avoid ambiguity.
  • Attention to detail: Ensuring legal documents are free from errors, with proper formatting and citation.

3. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving

  • Analyzing legal issues: Identifying key legal questions, understanding facts, and evaluating potential outcomes.
  • Offering solutions: Providing strategic input based on research and analysis.

4. Client Interaction

  • Communication skills: Interacting with clients in a professional manner, understanding their needs, and gathering necessary information.
  • Confidentiality: Understanding and maintaining client confidentiality and attorney-client privilege.

5. Organizational Skills

  • Time management: Balancing multiple tasks, managing deadlines, and prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Case file management: Organizing case files, ensuring proper documentation, and keeping track of deadlines.

6. Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Working in teams: Collaborating with other interns, paralegals, and attorneys to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Understanding roles: Recognizing how the intern's work fits into the broader goals of the legal team.

7. Professionalism and Ethics

  • Ethical awareness: Understanding legal ethics, rules of conduct, and maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Confidentiality: Managing sensitive information with discretion and adhering to ethical standards in all tasks.

8. Knowledge of Legal Procedures

  • Court procedures: Understanding the basics of litigation, including filing motions, attending hearings, and preparing discovery documents.
  • Contract law basics: Familiarity with contract formation, execution, and dispute resolution.
