Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Dutco Construction is looking to recruit experienced Estimator (Infrastructure Experienced)to work in Estimation Department, this is across Residential / Villas and Retail Projects, Duties will include:

  • Should have an experience working with Tier 1 / Tier 2 Main Contractors.
  • Implementation of company practices in tendering.
  • Initial appraisal of Bid documentation.
  • Attend site visits and assist team in preparing works.
  • Compare the BOQ items regards to their description in the bill, drawing and specification act on these item in case of discrepancy.
  • Flag the items in the BOQ specification, drawing which do not seems to match the current method/specification being followed by the companies/ industry and may impact the price.

Desired candidates’ profile.

  • UAE/MOFA Attested bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in Estimation Department preferably from a Tier 1 / Tier 2 Contracting Company.
  • Projects worked on, as Quantity Surveyor (Infrastructure Experienced) should managing significantly large packages and scope of works.

Desired candidate profile

1. Cost Estimation

  • Prepare Cost Estimates: Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and other resources required for a project. This includes estimating the cost of raw materials, subcontractors, and any necessary machinery or equipment.
  • Quantify Materials and Labor: Accurately measure quantities of materials (such as cement, steel, or wiring) and labor needed to complete each part of the project. This involves studying blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to calculate accurate quantities.
  • Estimate Timeframes: In addition to estimating costs, determine the time required for various phases of the project based on resource availability, project complexity, and productivity rates.

2. Project Analysis and Scope

  • Review Project Documents: Study architectural and engineering drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents to fully understand the scope of the project and identify potential risks or challenges.
  • Identify Key Requirements: Work with project managers, architects, and engineers to define key project requirements, including materials, labor, and technical specifications.
  • Risk and Contingency Planning: Identify potential risks, such as delays or unforeseen costs, and factor them into the cost estimate. Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks to ensure the project stays on budget.

3. Cost Control and Budgeting

  • Price Comparison: Compare prices from various suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the best value for the materials and services required for the project. Negotiate terms with vendors and contractors when necessary.
  • Budget Development: Prepare an overall project budget based on cost estimates. Ensure that the estimated costs align with the client's budget and work with project teams to ensure budget adherence throughout the project's lifecycle.
  • Cost Monitoring: During the project execution, monitor actual costs against estimates and report on any discrepancies or deviations. Suggest adjustments to control costs without compromising the quality of the project.

4. Tendering and Bid Preparation

  • Prepare Tender Documents: For projects that require a formal bid process, estimators prepare comprehensive tender documents that outline cost estimates, project timelines, and terms of delivery.
  • Bid Evaluation: Participate in the evaluation of bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all bids are competitive and meet the project’s quality standards and cost requirements.
  • Contract Negotiation: Once a tender is awarded, estimators may assist in the contract negotiation process, ensuring that both parties agree on scope, pricing, timelines, and terms of payment.
