We are looking for a Camp Boss with catering experience to oversee the day-to-day operations of our camp facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintaining high standards of food quality and service.
Job Responsibility
- Supervise camp staff, including kitchen and cleaning teams
- Plan and oversee menu preparation and meal services
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and regulations
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies, and place orders as needed
- Handle any feedback or complaints in a professional and efficient manner
- Manage budgets and expenses related to catering services
Candidate Requirements
- Attested Degree in any relevant courses
- Proven experience as a Camp Boss or similar role, specifically with catering experience
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle challenging situations with composure

1. Leadership and Management
- Team Management: Leading and supervising camp staff, including cooks, cleaners, security personnel, and maintenance workers. The Camp Boss ensures that all team members are working effectively and meeting their responsibilities.
- Conflict Resolution: Handling disputes among camp workers or between staff and management. A Camp Boss needs to maintain a harmonious and cooperative work environment.
- Motivation: Keeping morale high, especially in challenging or remote environments, by promoting a positive atmosphere and fostering teamwork.
- Decision-Making: Making quick and efficient decisions, especially in emergency situations or when dealing with issues related to camp operations.
2. Logistics and Operations Management
- Camp Setup & Maintenance: Overseeing the setup, maintenance, and operation of camp facilities, including accommodation units, dining halls, rest areas, sanitation, and recreational areas.
- Resource Management: Managing the camp's supplies, including food, water, fuel, cleaning products, medical supplies, and equipment. Ensuring the camp is adequately stocked and that resources are used efficiently.
- Scheduling and Planning: Creating schedules for workers, staff, and service rotations to ensure the smooth running of camp operations.
- Health and Safety Management: Ensuring that health and safety protocols are followed, from the handling of food to managing waste disposal, fire safety, and worker safety. The Camp Boss often coordinates with medical teams in case of emergencies.
- Facility Inspections: Conducting regular checks to ensure the camp is clean, operational, and meets all regulatory standards. This includes inspecting sanitation facilities, kitchens, and sleeping quarters.
- Transport Logistics: Overseeing transportation arrangements for workers coming to and leaving the camp, and coordinating deliveries of supplies to the camp.
3. Financial Management
- Budgeting: Managing the camp's budget, including expenses for food, lodging, supplies, and staff salaries. Ensuring that the camp operates within its allocated budget.
- Cost Control: Identifying ways to reduce costs without compromising the quality of services or safety. This could include finding more cost-effective suppliers or managing resource use more efficiently.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate financial records and reports for the camp’s operations, including inventory, payroll, and procurement.
4. Communication Skills
- Stakeholder Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact between camp workers, management, and external contractors or clients. Communicating effectively to relay information and feedback from workers to upper management.
- Clear Reporting: Preparing and submitting regular reports on the camp's operations, staffing, resource usage, and any incidents or issues that arise. This includes reporting to both on-site and off-site managers.
- Multilingual Communication: In some remote or international camp settings, the Camp Boss may need to communicate with workers who speak different languages or come from various cultural backgrounds. Language skills or a translator may be beneficial.
