Key Responsibilities of the Chief Engineer:
- Ensures the smooth running of the property maintenance department, where all areas are maintained to the highest levels
- Works proactively to improve guest satisfaction and comfort, delivering a positive and timely response to guest enquiries
- Develops and implements plans where property maintenance initiatives & hotel targets are achieved
- Leads and manages the maintenance team, fostering a culture of growth, development and performance within the department
- Prepares and is responsible for the departmental budget, ensuring that costs and inventory are controlled, that productivity and performance levels are attained
- Builds and maintains effective working relationships with all key stakeholders
- Establishes and delivers an effective planned preventative maintenance programme to address maintenance and environmental and conservation matters
- Ensures adherence and compliance to all legislation where due diligence requirements and best practice activities are planned, delivered and documented for internal and external audit, performing follow-up as required
Requirements of the Chief Engineer:
Degree in Engineering-Mechanical (preferred) / Civil or Electrical can be considered
Minimum Of 5 Years Of UAE Hospitality Experience
Available for at least 3 rounds of face to face interviews in Dubai
- Proven experience in property maintenance with strong problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent leadership skills with a hands-on approach and lead-by-example work style

Maintenance and Repairs
- Overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and elevators.
- Supervising the timely completion of repairs and maintenance work and ensuring that they meet the required standards.
- Coordinating with other departments (e.g., housekeeping, front desk) to address issues such as room temperature control, plumbing problems, or equipment breakdowns.

Preventive Maintenance Programs
- Implementing and overseeing a preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime, extend the lifespan of systems, and avoid costly emergency repairs.
- Scheduling routine inspections and preventive maintenance for all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarms, and other critical infrastructure.
- Keeping detailed maintenance logs and ensuring that all service schedules are adhered to.

Energy Management and Efficiency
- Monitoring energy usage across the property and identifying opportunities for reducing energy consumption while maintaining comfort and operational efficiency.
- Managing building automation systems (BMS) to optimize energy performance, including controlling lighting, HVAC, and other systems to reduce costs without sacrificing guest comfort.
- Implementing energy-saving initiatives, such as upgrading to energy-efficient lighting or HVAC systems, and encouraging sustainability initiatives.

Budget and Resource Management
- Creating and managing the engineering department’s budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring that projects and repairs are completed within budget.
- Overseeing the procurement of materials and equipment required for maintenance, ensuring that supplies are stocked appropriately and cost-effectively.
- Reviewing vendor contracts for third-party services (e.g., elevator maintenance, plumbing services) and negotiating favorable terms.

Emergency Management and Safety
- Developing and overseeing emergency procedures related to building systems, including electrical failures, HVAC malfunctions, fires, floods, and natural disasters.
- Ensuring that fire safety equipment (e.g., extinguishers, sprinkler systems) is properly maintained and that staff is trained in emergency response.
- Conducting regular drills and safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to prepare staff for potential emergencies.
