Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled Project Engineer - Electrical to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, execution, and completion of electrical systems for construction and engineering projects. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with experience in project management, electrical engineering design, and field supervision to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review project plans, specifications, and schedules for electrical engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, construction teams, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other project elements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost estimations for project components
  • Design, review, and approve electrical systems, schematics, and layouts according to project requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and standards, including NEC, IEEE, and local building codes.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation for project approval and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure quality standards are met and identify any potential issues early.
  • Monitor project progress and resolve any technical issues or deviations from the project plan.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project specifications.
  • Review vendor proposals, select appropriate materials, and maintain a balance between quality and budget.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering within the construction, engineering, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, project management, and construction processes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as NEC, IEEE, and IEC.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or related certification.
  • Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and building management systems.
  • Experience working on large construction, commercial, or industrial projects.

1. Technical Electrical Engineering Knowledge

  • Electrical Systems Design: Knowledge of designing and specifying electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, wiring, electrical circuits, and other related systems.
  • Power Distribution: Expertise in designing and implementing power systems, including transformers, switchgear, distribution boards, and circuit protection.
  • Control Systems: Understanding of control systems, automation, and instrumentation, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
  • Load Calculations and System Sizing: Ability to perform load calculations, select proper cables, fuses, circuit breakers, and generators, and ensure that the system design matches project requirements.
  • Lighting and Illumination Design: Knowledge of lighting systems and controls, including compliance with energy efficiency and sustainability standards (e.g., LED systems, smart lighting).
  • Earthing and Grounding: Designing and overseeing the installation of grounding systems to ensure electrical safety.

2. Project Management

  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Strong skills in planning, organizing, and scheduling electrical engineering tasks and resources, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Proficient in estimating the cost of electrical systems and managing the budget throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring it stays within financial constraints.
  • Resource Allocation: Efficiently managing electrical resources, including labor, materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are available when needed and utilized effectively.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks related to electrical safety, project delays, and budget overruns.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Coordinating and managing vendors and subcontractors who supply or install electrical components and systems, ensuring quality and compliance with specifications.

3. Regulatory and Safety Compliance

  • Electrical Codes and Standards: Familiarity with national and international electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC, NEMA, IEEE) to ensure electrical systems comply with all regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Health and Safety Standards: Knowledge of electrical safety standards, regulations, and practices (e.g., lockout/tagout procedures, grounding, arc flash protection) to ensure the safety of workers and systems.
