Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assists the project or program manager with administering the SH&E programs.
  • Audits the project or program and its worksites against corporate standards.
  • Inspects worksites to detect hazard; provides expertise to project personnel to eliminate/control the SH&E risks associated with exposure to the hazards.
  • Creates and submits written audit and inspection reports.
  • Monitors project or program work planning and performance; verifies planning and work performance conforms to Parsons’ Environmental, Safety, Health, and Risk Program (ESHARP) management system.
  • Implements Parsons’ occupational injury and incident reporting and management processes.
  • Performs trends analyses on audit findings, inspection findings, and incident reports; creates and submits regular analysis reports.
  • Assists the project or program manager with new hire orientation.
  • Performs regulatory and best practice SH&E training.
  • Creates and maintains SH&E training records.
  • Participates in routine safe work briefings.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of federal and state SH&E regulations and reporting procedures
  • Working knowledge of safety-related national consensus standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA)
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Education and Typical Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 15 years of related work experience in the field of Health and Safety

  1. Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Strong understanding of local, state, and federal safety laws and regulations (e.g., OSHA standards).

  2. Risk Assessment Skills: Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures.

  3. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively conveying safety policies and procedures to employees and management.

  4. Training and Instruction: Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs to educate staff on best practices and compliance.

  5. Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in monitoring compliance and conducting inspections to identify safety violations or hazards.

  6. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address safety issues proactively and implement solutions to mitigate risks.

  7. Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to interact positively with employees at all levels and foster a culture of safety within the organization.

  8. Incident Investigation Skills: Proficiency in conducting investigations into accidents or near misses and reporting findings to prevent recurrence.

  9. Emergency Response Planning: Knowledge of emergency response procedures and the ability to develop and implement effective plans.

  10. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze safety data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Developing these skills will help you excel as a Safety Officer, ensuring a safe workplace and promoting a culture of health and safety within the organization.
