Job Description

The Process Engineer Hydraulic Surge is responsible for performing detailed surge analysis and engineering assessments to ensure the safe and efficient operation of fluid systems within industrial applications particularly in oil and gas petrochemical or water treatment facilities. The engineer will analyze fluid dynamics surge pressure and transient flows to mitigate risks and design systems that can withstand hydraulic surges also known as water hammer effects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform indepth analysis of piping systems to identify potential hydraulic surge risks including pressure transients and water hammer effects. Use specialized software such as AFT Impulse PIPENET or similar to model surge events.
  • Develop and optimize piping and control system designs to prevent or minimize hydraulic surge effects. Provide engineering solutions such as surge protection devices (e.g. surge vessels pressure relief valves accumulators and air chambers).
  • Analyze system pressure profiles and transient behavior during startup shutdown and operational changes to ensure the system is within safe operating limits. Provide recommendations for pressure control and flow stabilization.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical instrumentation and control engineers to ensure integrated designs. Collaborate with project management operations and maintenance teams to ensure designs meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure that all designs and engineering analyses comply with relevant international codes and standards such as API ASME and ISO particularly in relation to hydraulic surge and pressure transient phenomena.
  • Provide technical support during commissioning and operation to troubleshoot issues related to hydraulic surge events. Conduct field investigations to diagnose and resolve surgerelated problems in fluid systems.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports design calculations and technical documentation on hydraulic surge analyses and mitigation strategies. Maintain accurate records of all engineering activities.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Masters degree in Fluid Mechanics Process Engineering or similar is an advantage.
  • 10 years of experience as a Process Engineer in hydraulic surge analysis within the oil & gas petrochemical or related industries. Experience with hydraulic modeling software (e.g. AFT Impulse PIPENET OLGA) is essential.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics hydraulic surge and pressure transient phenomena.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic surge analysis and transient flow modeling software.
  • Experience with designing and implementing surge mitigation devices and techniques.
  • Familiarity with API ASME and other relevant industry standards for pressure systems.
  • Strong problemsolving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
