Job Description
The Jr Sommelier’s specific scope of responsibility will mainly fall into the following areas, but at all times standard procurement and approval processes at a property level must be followed.
- Creation and update of the wine list and wine by the glass offerings, and overall control and maintenance of the wine cellar
- In cooperation with culinary operations and recreation, plan & execute wine of month, promotions, wine dinners, and guest wine tasting.
- Maintaining/stocking all related wine equipment
- Ongoing colleague training and development on wine knowledge, including daily departmental training
- Pioneer wine up-selling initiatives
- Controlling open wines to avoid spoilage
- Joining wine events/tasting outside the resort and become a recognised expert in the community.
- Build a network of other talented F&B professionals in other properties who might be recruited in future.
- Able to lead wine tasting with guests
- Conduct monthly wine inventory with cost controller
- Oversee the wine offers in room (mini-bar)
Qualifications
- College diploma in Hotel/Bar Management or related field
- Previous experience as a Jr Wine Sommelier/Guru
- Previous experience in managing a team of bartenders.
- Passion for teamwork
- Extensive knowledge of wines and other beverages
- Excellent guest service skills
- WSET Certification
