Cabinet Maker Responsibilities:

• Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.
• Cutting resources down to size as needed.
• Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.
• Creating standard and custom components of cabinets.
• Gathering the elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product.
• Applying sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets if required.
• Inspecting each completed item to ensure accurate construction and necessary finishes.
• Repairing elements of cabinets that have been sent in for servicing.
• Wearing the requisite uniform and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.
• Advising on appropriate care for finished products upon request.
  

Cabinet Maker Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Completion of a training program or apprenticeship will be advantageous.
• Prior experience as a Cabinet Maker, with a portfolio of completed works.
• The ability to visualize spaces to create appropriate furniture.
• Good arithmetic skills.
• Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing workmanship.

AutoCAD : AutoCAD is a computer-aided design (CAD) software used for creating precise 2D and 3D drawings, including detailed cabinetry designs, layouts, and material specifications. Cabinet makers use AutoCAD to visualize their designs, efficiently utilize materials, and ensure accurate dimensions 1 .

• SketchUp : SketchUp is a 3D modeling software that allows cabinet makers to create, visualize, and modify custom cabinet designs. It enhances creativity, accurate dimensioning, and efficient material planning 1 .
• CNC Operation : Familiarity with operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines for precise cutting, shaping, and carving of cabinet components.
• Joinery Techniques : Knowledge of various joinery methods (e.g., dovetail joints, mortise and tenon) used to assemble cabinets.
• Wood Finishing : Understanding different wood finishes (stains, varnishes, paints) and their application to achieve desired aesthetics and protection.
• Laminate Application : Ability to apply laminate (e.g., Formica) to cabinet surfaces.
• Veneering : Knowledge of veneer application techniques for decorative surfaces.
• Cabinet Vision : Familiarity with specialized software like Cabinet Vision for designing and visualizing cabinetry projects.
• Safety Compliance : Adherence to safety protocols when using tools and machinery in the workshop.
