Essential Responsibilities
- Assembles basic anesthesia set up and equipment. Performs initial anesthesia machine check and subsequent leak testing between cases. Troubleshoots anesthesia machine and physiological monitors as needed. Assists with patient transport to the operating room, including placement of the patient on the OR table and non-invasive monitors (NIBP, EKG, Sp02, and temperature). Assists with set up of invasive monitoring equipment in routine and emergency situations: Swan-Ganz, arterial line, central venous pressure line, P.A. Line, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation and regional nerve block. May assist with direct patient care under the direction of the Anesthesia provider. Assist Anesthesia provider with induction of anesthesia, including cricoid pressure for intubation as directed. Picks up and delivers lab specimens and ABGs as required. Coordinates patient monitoring and equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units. Works with perioperative team to facilitate prompt OR turnover time. Removes and disposes of all supplies and equipment at the end of the case. Replaces supplies and equipment needed for general/regional anesthesia between cases. Prepares anesthesia procedure tray as requested. Disinfects, decontaminates and sterilizes all anesthesia-related items, machines and carts as required per Infection Control procedures. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies in anesthesia machines and carts, including rotation and replacement of dated items. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in emergency code blue boxes, malignant hyperthermia carts, difficult intubation carts, invasive monitoring carts, pediatric carts and regional anesthesia carts as listed on cart inventory. Examines sterilization date on medical instruments, supplies and equipment and replaces items no longer sterile. Maintains records and documentation of equipment, quality checks and waived testing performed in department. Coordinates with Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia monitoring equipment as needed. Disassembles, inspects, tests, wraps and dates instruments and equipment. Identifies damage and initiates appropriate repair and replacement process. Uses steam, gas and plasma sterilizer. Reads and records Biological test results. Assists with complex patient transport to PACU/ICU including preparation of oxygen source and transportation monitors. Coordinates with Pharmacy to maintain stock, return and replace all outdated items except controlled drugs. Maintains log for Extra Order drugs. Ensures availability of backup monitoring equipment at all times and provides timely replacement as need. Coordinates with Unit Manager to maintain and revise inventory par levels for supplies and equipment. May participate in the orientation and training of new employees. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel. May perform other duties as required.
Experience
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Current understanding of equipment operations used in Anesthesia department, working knowledge of Anesthesia department procedures. Demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities required of an Anesthesia Technician

License, Certification, Registration
- Basic Life Support within 1 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians as a Certified Anesthesia Technician. Certificate of training for Drager Anesthesia System, PPS Saracap or equivalent biomedical course, basic nursing care, crisis management, and principles of asepsis.
- Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician or current enrollment in accredited Anesthesia Technologist Program required
