- Creating drawings, sketches, and models to communicate design ideas to clients and other stakeholders
- Collaborating with other engineers and architects to develop designs that meet building codes and standards
- Reviewing blueprints, designs, and plans created by architects or other engineers and making recommendations for changes
- Conducting research regarding materials and techniques used in construction of buildings or other structures
- Conducting inspections during the construction process to ensure that construction meets building codes and standards
- Developing computer models of buildings or structures using specialized software programs
- Meeting with clients to discuss project details and specifications
- Determining the feasibility of a design before beginning construction
- Preparing construction bids based on plans provided by architects or engineers
